Sweet.....Chatham is a really nice small town. The place your staying at is really nice.......you'll enjoy it....for sure. Tons of small very cool little shops with all types of old school naughtical stuff......no need to drive anywhere when your in Chatham....

Providencetown is a must to check out if you have never been. Find parking on the side of the road or if you go all the way in town there is a very big parking lot also. People are odd......stores are even odder...you'll see if u go.....

Nice place your girl booked for you both......the place your stayin is killer.........you'll enjoy for sure!:D

Chatham Bars is a VERY nice place right on the water. You won't even need to leave there to have a great time. We checked it out for our wedding a few years ago. BTW everyone's advise for your trip is spot on! One place that I love to go to eat when were down there is Brax Landing which is very close to where you'll be staying. They have great seafood and are right on the water. Nice and relaxing eating on the deck outside watching the boats come in and out. Have a great time!

    Ha Ha, You're on vacation....splurge.
The Inn is nice. Things to do? I don't know, I'm nearer the Canal and avoid going down Cape in the Summer, Toooo Touristy.
Typical mini golf, beaches, shopping, it's all gear for the tourist.
Ask 'em at the Inn and look for brochures in the lobby.
Whale Watches, Jet Ski Rentals, Boat Rentals, Booze Cruise, Canal Cruise.
Take a ferry to Nantucket or Martha Vineyard, same touristy stuff out there, except everything cost three times as much.
Aquarium in Yarmouth I think. Historical stuff on the north side of the Cape.
Plymouth Plantation off Cape in Plymouth. National Seashore. Surfin' in Nauset.
If you're drivin', cruise down Rt 6A on the North side, scenic and not Touristy.
The South side is all about tourism, as You'll see.
And as in other posts, don't miss P-Town. Nice Boutiques with unique stuff.
And REAL UNIQUE inhabitants. They're harmless though.
I think you can still get a Vehicle pass to drive on the (P-Town) Sand Dunes for a week for $40.
Having lived (and worked) here all my life, with the exception of a few years in Boston,
I take it all for granted, and probably take less advantage of the Cape than the tourists do.
I make more use of the Cape in the "Off Season". Fall is beautiful here.
Plan on Traffic Congestion, as half the population of the planet comes to the Cape in the summer. And I can't blame 'em.
Another reason it's beautiful in the Fall.

Enjoy your vacation, You'll like it here.

Hey Cape and Major whats your opinion on taking a ferry from Boston to Provincetown and then renting car? Would the cost of the ferry justify the amount of traffic I would avoid?

Ya got me on that one :notsure:
I don't know anything about the ferry.
    Fast ferry would be nice.
And I'm sure you'd love the trip, weather being your only pitfall.
As far as the traffic, everyone gets there eventually.
I try to time my excursions so as to miss the traffic.
There's only 2 bridges to get on and off Cape, 2 lanes in either direction
I never leave the Cape on a Sunday afternoon/evening.
Route 6, the main artery to "Down Cape" is a divided highway, with 2 lane either side.
About halfway to Chatham (at the elbow) it narrow to a 2 lane road, dubbed "Suicide Alley", now with Jersey Barriers to eliminate the Head-Ons.
It's not uncommon to have a 8 mile back-up on Route 6 trying to leave the Cape on a Sunday evening.
Same holds true for Fridays afternoons/evenings and Saturday mornings coming on Cape.
Google "Cape Cod Traffic Camera", and take a look at those times.
I also don't know about car rentals in P-Town
Some Trivia: in 1970, the Cape's population was 125,000.
In the 2 busiest weeks in the summer it peaked at a million.
Don't have the statistics for today, 40 years later, but it hasn't improved.

    Good Luck

I have taken a convoy around the traffic circle & over that bridge heading to Camp Edwards in the summer late 1990s for military summer training ...now that was fun in a deuce & 1/2
They have been doing bridge construction the last couple of years haven't they or is it completed?
Definitely an adventure driving down there.
The breakdown lane traffic doing70-80 freaks me out!!!!

Take the Cape Cod Tunnel, it's definitely faster than the bridges

Packing.........driving.........getting to the bridge......getting over onto the Cape is part of the adventure if you have never done so......plus when you hit 28 and start making your way to Chatham your going to pass many many places that will grab your attention........yoiur going to smell things like the ocean and marshes......its all part of the story!

Just don't try and do to many things on your first time down there. You'll end up in lines for alot of things and you don't wanna get into that pattern for sure.

Ferry costs $80, round trip, I think. Add the pricey rental and it's not worth the cost just to avoid traffic crossing over the canal. And if you use the rental car to go anywhere besides PTown, you're going to encounter traffic. Hell, PTown is super congested. Drive to the Cape, just get off of Route 6 ASAP and onto 6A. The scenery is a lot better and there's usually less traffic. It can also be slow at times, but it's not a superhighway and you have to expect that.

You can have a wonderful time here. Just don't expect to get anywhere too quickly and there'll likely be a line when you get to where you want to be. Understand it and accept it and you'll have fun.
