It could either work extremely well or not work and be a gimmick. It would be nice if the torque sensing worked and knew, by throttle position, when to change. While also skipping gears for efficiency.

Ford is still fighting the stigma of building over priced pieces of shit. I dont think something would be this hyped if it didnt produce results. I dont think ford is in a position to screw around on this, they dont have all that dodge and GM bailout money to play with

I can drive my GFs 2.0L Mazda3 180 miles through the mountains (for a day get away,) drive around town, then drive 180 miles back, without having to fill up until we got back. We averaged about 34 MPG.

Now in the Tacoma I get about 22 MPG with mostly (flat) highway driving, 30 miles one way, with stop and go traffic on the way back. The Tacoma doesn't have enough torque to stay efficient during stop and go traffic.

I think with either of the F150 transmissions I could get above average MPGs. The EcoBoost would be the hardest for me to stay above 15 MPG though, especially during mountain trips (non towing situations.)

It has a blue oval on the front that says 'Ford', so I want nothing to do with it.

    Ford makes good trucks.

The reason you're seeing more and more cogs in trannies is it allows them to shift earlier in the power band, keep RPM low, and helps fuel economy. As CAFE continues to bone the auto-industry in the ass, you're going to see domestic nameplates turn to this stuff a lot more. After all, they're more dependent on profit-rich full size pickups than their competition...and those juggernauts happen to get the worst fuel economy by far.

The downside I see to this is more parts and complexity = higher chance of breakage. If there's one thing truck guys hate, it's unreliability.

SO lets see if i got this 365HP, 420FPT & 22MPG out of a turbo V6 and you say pu pu.. Not too far down the road toyota be doing the same thing. So I guess you will be going back to the little Big wheel you came from. I for one am glad ford is looking down the road. Want to bet like ducks to water the other builders will follow....... I was one of the first people to rip on the Raptor - even got into it with MJP2...then I witnessed one rip the hell out of a trail and leave me in the dust and was like FUG YEAH that thing is bad.

The F150s Ecos are for real, same mpg we get with our V6s. I'm letting them get the bugs out of the 1st year builds before making a decision but that truck is bad ARSE guys...hate to say it.

My question is... what is the resale on a F150 these days?? The last time I checked the Fords weren't worth a squirt of piss after you dirve em off the lot. I've always said that if I had to go bigger, it would be diesel and it would be F250... Hopefully Ford turns it around and can get some resale value back!

Not liking it alot but yes we are the old dogs now, some of these kids are dumber then a bag of rocks. Whipper snapper is one of the smarter ones on TW without being a smart ass. I read a lot of his post & the boy knows his trucks. Right you are on the keep learning, without new stuff in there the brain turns to grits. Jim
