That’s a fair observation. I did have a couple days of wet in Houston and while I cannot make a complete assessment, I did drive through a deep road puddle at speed and it sliced through like a razor. Not sure if that was the tire or the weight of the Trailhunter.

Do Falkens ever go on sale? I know they're usually cheaper than competing brands but it seems like Discount/America's Tire never have Falkens for sale even during Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I usually see Goodyears, Bridgestones, Toyos, basically everything else.

I'm looking as well, not sold on Falkens yet. Still open to other brands, but it doesn't seem like it are many deals out there. Plus, looks like most online outlets are all owned by the same company (AMericas Tire, Discount Tire, Tire Rack). There's fixgo.com, but not sure about them.

Hello, trying to figure out correct psi for at4w 255/85/16 on 3rd gen tacoma. According Falken chart it is supposed to be 40? Or I'm unable to understand it

Best to just do a chalk test. Anything the tire manufacturer recommends isn't going to be factoring in specific vehicles, different loads, different uses...

Do you have reservations on the quality of the tires, or is it something else? I'm leaning towards getting their AT4Ws soon. But I like to research everything as much as I can before purchasing.

Always had terra grapplers, the original ones, then G2 and then they stop making the G2 in this size and right after I purchased these they came out with the G3.

Same PSI for my setup. I did multiple chalk tests on my 3rd Gen with 255/80R17 AT4Ws and it is perfect at 35psi. Front skid, roof rack, retractable tonneau and bed bars. Not a ton of extra weight other than oversized rear spare but perfect inflation at 35 psi. Nice and supple ride too.

I'd probably be willing to go with the Wildpeak AT3, I'm not usually into getting any product soon after launch. I don't know if this is true, but some are saying that the AT4s have had balance issues for some. Not trying to spread inaccurate info, but these things happen on new products. Also not trying to dissuade you from purchasing, they might be great.

I'm looking for a 255/80/r17 amongst the ones with aggressive tread that get the best gas mileage since most of my driving will be on highway - knowing that I'm already going to lose a couple mgs going from stock.

Edit: I just saw post #728. I heard it elsewhere on the net

So we’re to believe that AT4’s double the braking distance? And add 40% to acceleration times? Pssshhh.

I totally understand, but if you even cut the braking distance in half that’s still shitty. The AT3w was good in snow the Falken AT4w sucks. in the dry and rain the AT4w is good but it’s a turd in snow and ice.
Heck even the old KO2 did better than it, this guy did multiple runs with a Ford Raptor.

I’ll buy in that they are probably worse. Perhaps 30% as that second study indicated. But a 100% change just doesn’t seem plausible.

The last guy did multiple runs and not just one time, Falken went with a harder compound to get more miles out of the tire, or something like that, so ice performance went down.

That’s a proper way to approach a comparison. I’ll buy a 30-40% drop, particularly if the vendor is indicating a sacrifice. But I’m hesitant on the 100% still.

I have At4ws (I wanted 3s but they were out). I live in the northeast, and they are almost as good in snow and ice as my other vehicles Michelin Cross Climate 2s. Obviously a different type of tire entirely, but I think that is saying something. I definitely have balance issues, even with 4 weights on one side of my passenger rear tire, but it isnt horrible. Been very impressed with rock climbing abilities up to slightly more than 2 foot steps and drops in wet and dry. Great on wet and dry pavement, but there is a decent amount of give in the tires because the sidewalls are so tall, so they feel a bit numb on initial turn-in. Cant compare to the AT3Ws, but my braking distance isn't stellar, but it wasnt on my last set of tires isnt. I also have an extra 425 lbs of armor without gear/ supplies that factors in. Not sure if this helps anyone.

I ran BFG AT for a long time and loved them in the snow/dirt but they were very very noisy in the highway IMO. Switched to Falken AT4ws and won't be turning back.

I haven't had any balancing issues of any sort.

For people unhappy with the new AT4W wishing they could still get the AT3W, check out the Rubitrek
