The big three don't care about midsize trucks. Why put a bunch of effort into a class of truck that sells as many in a year as they sell in a month with their full size.

I saw one this past weekend and didn't find it appealing at all. I've personally never had any luck with Ford products. Luckily the company I work for purchased a Ford Transit van a couple of years ago so now I can confirm that it's not me but Ford. Their diesel engine puked at just over 22,000 miles, spent 87 days at the dealer getting the new engine installed. They had to pull the engine, again, to replace a faulty part and reinstall. Less than a week after getting it back the A/C quit working, a bolt fell out from under the dash and hit the drivers right foot, and the power steering is straining at idle.

I'm not seeing any new Rangers on the road around where I live (Cincy/Nky). I'm also not seeing them advertised.

Ford must be hiding them; it makes more money NOT selling any of them!

FWIW, I poked my head into a new Ranger at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November: it looks pretty decent from the outside, but the interior looks like the same old crap Ford has been putting out for the past 10 years.

I have only seen one on the road around here, but they are supposedly selling well, according to the dealers i have been in... I was just curious and wanted to see one in the flesh... yeah, not so impressed, I think I drove this in Africa about 8 years ago.... but with a diesel... Will wait for the next iteration

I see advertisements daily in the Ohio area, but the only Ranger I have seen has been sitting at the Dealer for the past 2 months.

Ranger sales numbers are probably that low because Ford isn't producing them fast enough. On the initial pre orders, people waited 4-6 months to actually get their vehicle. Even now, they estimate 8-12 weeks from order to delivery. I sure hope it is faster than that, can't wait to get my hands on mine.

I love reading this thread. Wait a year kids. The same thing happened with the Colorado. It sucked in sales until about 9–12 months into its first sales year. Drive by your local GM dealer and then drive by your local Ford dealer. You’ll see at least a half dozen Colorado’s/Canyon’s on the GM lot and be lucky to see one Ranger at the Ford lot. I guarantee if it’s been sitting there it’s a loaded up Lariat that no one really wants just like Limited Tacoma’s tend to sit on the lot the longest. My point? Sales numbers mean nothing until the factory can fill the lots and supply chain.

I don't think you'll have any trouble finding one. I did a quick inventory search on Ford's website and found 52 within 20 miles of me, and I am in Tucson, AZ. I'm sure a larger metro area would have a much larger selection. It appears to be a demand issue, not supply.

Link? That’s funny since there’s 11 by me over a 100 km radius in the middle of a truck mecca (all Ag and Oil around me) across 6 dealerships.

In any case my argument isn’t that the Ranger is going to outsell the Tacoma. I don’t think it will. I think the Tacoma has a lot going for it and, while I’m not a fan personally of the third gen, I think it’s sales lead would be tough to catch for any truck. I don’t think though that only 3-4 months into production that I’d point at the sales numbers with any confidence. I’ll wait for the end of year one, since that’s what happened to the last small truck that launched as well.

The other funny thing is that my local Toyota dealer has 4 TRD Pro third gens on lot. Remember when those trucks were limited lol, now they’re not it seems. They also sit on the lot until Toyota financing drops in with a rate break.

Hit refine search, then scroll down to in transit. 32 only exist on paper. Also notice how other vehicles on the site have IRL pictures and the Rangers don’t, that usually means fresh arrival before PDI. Plus it looks like this is a dealership chain that pulls from all their associated Ford dealerships inventory as well, that’s common here too and frustrating. I’m guessing their actual on lot ready to roll truck number is about a quarter to half of what there searches bring up at most.

That all being said even if that one location had 70 trucks I’m pretty sure Ford isnt panicking. They just started to roll them out. If they’re piling up on the lot at the end of the summer that’s when shit will get interesting.

I had dinner with my brother and walked a few dealerships lots near the restaurant. I was shocked at how well Toyota was stocked on Tacoma’s compared to when I bought but apparently I saw on another thread that sales numbers in Canada have dropped off slightly. If the economy goes to shit in the US like it has here I can’t see any of these companies, the ones that are pumping out piles of their popular large models, having a good time.
