More interesting shots of the Ranger Raptor:

Rear axle looks to be coil-sprung with a watt's linkage instead of the more traditional panhard rod. Looks to be a diesel, too, with the DEF tank next to the spare.

For reference, this is the rear axle on the Ford Everest:

^The Truck Trend article mentions the truck sounds like it has the 3.2L I-5 diesel currently used in the full-size Transit van.

On a different note, if the truck uses the global Everest rear axle, then it might use the global Everest/Ranger axle shafts as well with the 6x5.5" lug pattern ( ). Wonder who'll be the first to put TRD wheels on it.

First shots of the US-trim Ranger, spotted at Moab (click for full-size)

Looks like the US-specific styling elements will be limited to forward of the A-pillars. Encouraging to see the truck retain the 6-lug wheels of the global Ranger (same lug pattern as Toyota).

    :notsure:
Explorer-like front end. Good looking 'new body style' truck. Not an overly aggressive grill that is a nice feature in my opinion.

I think the truck is going to do well, it looks like a shorter wheel base so turning radius should be improved.

Still interested in the Bronco version. :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

I'm only speaking for myself, but I sincerely wish the manufacturers would understand why I am excited at the Ranger. It's the same reason I was excited (and eventually disappointed) about the 2nd gen Colorado/Canyon, that they are global trucks. If Ford waters it down like GM did then there's no point. I bought a Toyota truck way back when because at the time the global truck upon which it was based (the Hilux) was built head-and-shoulders better. Toyota beat the competition with a simple, reliable vehicle that offered a lot of truck for the money.

With the Tacoma they "tailored" a truck for the U.S. market, which to me hasn't truly replaced the simplicity and payload (e.g. having more than 900 lbs of payload rating) of the old truck. If the new Ranger shares the same heavy curb weight with small GVWR then it's a solid "meh". To do that they need to retain the frame and suspension of the T6 (or T6+, T7, whatever it ends up being) that gives it a 1,333 kg payload in some configurations. Now I don't need a 2,900 lbs payload but when you outfit a T6 with 4WD and Supercab in XLT it still has a 1,045 kg payload rating. Having 2,300 lbs of payload would be useful.

I actually think the new Ranger front end is better looking than the 3rd gen Tacoma's. Tacoma styling got ugly after 2015 :p

That blue truck is not too bad looking, limited models have the chrome bits and ugly wheels, the other versions will probably look better.

Not the look I was hoping to see. Pretty bland. Nothing screams truck or unique.
