Another reason the Ranger is likely to be at the top of fleet sales.

Saw Ranger outside a neighbor's house. Looks decent. Better than the Colorado.

That truck is hideous. The Colorado looks much better in my opinion.

I wonder if being destined for upfitting that it's a place holder just so it can get on and off a transport. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it, that the company putting a body on that will change springs, too. If there's one thing Ford does it's building trucks that get configured for fleets and utility later.
They get the Hilux, too. Hope Ford offers a no nonsense global Ranger like that.

Not funny, saw a Ranger missing a front wheel and probably a broken axle in the shoulder. Ironically this was in front of the Ford dealership. I'm sure this was a coincidence, there was also a Fl50 there providing support.

    Early last gen Ranger.

Anger needs an outlet. Many such have been the tools of hatred since time immemorial.

A few years ago, I was talking about new cars with my mother-in-law.

I mentioned that a Ford model that might be a good fit for her, and she almost jumped out of her seat.

"I bought a new Ford Galaxy in 1970, and it was a lemon, I will never own another Ford!".

I doesn't matter that this was more than 40 years later.

Maybe irrational, but I believe this happens.

If I had the option to get a Ranger in 2016, I might have done it.

    Glad they weren't available then

The Taco is a good little truck, for sure.

Ford still needs to deliver the chassis-cab with a street-legal suspension that fully supports the truck's GVWR. Some upfit companies will probably keep the single-leaf springs because they don't know any better.

The Chrysler minivans had single-leaf springs supporting a beam axle, until 2008 I think. Rear weight can vary between empty and ~1200 lb (5 adults with two bench seats).

Upfitters can get vehicles delivered as incomplete vehicles without a GVWR, which is often the way a cab-and-chassis will be sold. The upfitter will then complete them and attach the GVWR plates, technically becoming the final assembler.

The ratings the manufacturer gives become invalid once you modify it (such as removing the box) anyway, since their certification method uses axle weights and center of gravity, and Ford isn't going to sell a complete vehicle without a box on it ever. There's lots of things the manufacturer can delete or not certify on a truck destined for upfitting, mirrors, radios, seats, even brake or hydraulic systems (which may be changed to accommodate PTOs or pumps).

All depends on what the market is for later use. If you're making a cab-and-chassis into camper or school bus there's really no connection to the GVWR that a leather trimmed Limited that will only carry golf clubs its whole life got anyway.

The manufacturer can I guess re-rate a modified truck that was originally sold as complete, but that's usually to reduce the GVWR so that a driver with lower credentials can drive it and I doubt something you'd see in light or medium duty vehicles.

Since it won't roll without any springs they may just use the lightest duty available for transport to the up fitter.
