No it’s not hard to keep up lol. Importing trucks when the dollar was at par was very common and if the dash speedo reads miles in large letters it’s pretty easy to tell where it came from.

So you just go around looking in everyone's windows to come up with this claim?

I live in a town of ~10,000. There are only two 1st gens in town that I know of and one was owned by a friend.

Oh wait, I forgot this is the internet where sarcasm and trying to get people tilted rule over facts. Continue on. I’ll check out. Keep up the good fight proving your new purchase against a truck model that hasn’t even seen mike 0 yet :).

I have no idea what you're even trying to say. I'm hopping out of this thread.

   .

Have a good one. The starting point was that the 1st gen Ranger ceased production 3 years before the 1st gen Tacoma came out. I then added that 1st gen Tacoma’s are rare here on the Canadian Prairies because they almost all rusted out and were bought back. After that it became a typical TW argument which went nowhere.

PS If you don’t know how to use Google to look up why Canadians were bringing in US vehicles from the Southern US in the late 2000s that’s not my fault but it certainly does not make it untrue. When you could get a used vehicle for pretty much 30% off because of the exchange rate it happened a lot.

Like I said, have a good day.

If all the Toyotas came from the United States, then getting a frame replaced in Canada wasn't happening. They replaced them down here. Probably why they disappeared. But I'm still not buying a 25 year old ranger being common in your area either. They dealt with frame rust and body panel rust.

My brother looked for a 1st gen here the last year for his son as a first vehicle. Under 275k miles and they go for $12-13k. Probably a good indicator. The rangers over 150k miles, really don't exist. If they do, they're closer to $4500. Why is that?

    Depends on where you live.

What exactly is a 1st gen Ranger, F-100 Rangers, or actual Ranger compact P/Us?

The only way you can compare is by model year. Even then how the heck would you go about doing that?

They didn’t all come from the USA lol. Well that’s not accurate either since almost all Canadian Tacoma’s are made in Texas but, no, none of the Tacoma’s that were bought back by Toyota Canada were US sold Tacoma’s here used. The only trucks here that the buyback applied to were trucks that were sold in Canada. Therefore most of the trucks that are here now were imported from areas where the rot wasn’t bad and then were protected by owners that new of the problem. This is well known in the local off road community, where many of the imports end up due to the Toyota fan community love and money.

I owned a 2008 Ford Ranger Sport 4x4 in college. It’s still running, I see it locally all the time. I know it’s mine because I put in a custom tool box and it’s still in the box of the truck. While that’s only 10 years, I stand 100% behind my statement that locally their are more Rangers on the road than 1st gen Tacoma’s.

There are still a couple of style side Ford Splash Rangers here. Those are old as hell, I can’t even remember the years they were made. They aren’t worth a dime but they run and the paint on them is still good even on the frame. Everyone knows about the Tacoma premium. Anything is worth only whatever people will pay. If that’s your defense of why to buy a 2018 or 2019 Tacoma though, that you’ll hold onto it for 25 years and sell it for 15k plus inflation, that’s a bit silly given almost no one actually keeps their truck that long and all of the new mid sized trucks have good resale. The estimated Colorado resale after 5 years is almost a season good as the Tacoma. I see no reason why the Ford Ranger won’t have great resale either.

Given your brother was looking for a first gen I assume you’re a Toyota family? Am I wrong? In somewhat your own words why would I stick around here and argue with you? You aren’t going to buy anything with a different badge on it. You’ll likely just continue on about “my uncle this and my cousin that and I hate anything not Tacoma because it’s garbage,” like is typical on this site lol. Which is fine, it is TW. Don’t get me wrong. I love my Tacoma. It’s a great truck for what I need. I’m also not blind though to it’s faults and where it can be improved. There aren’t many totally stock parts on my truck and I’ve done plenty of preventative fixes. If anything hopefully the Ranger can perform well enough against the Tacoma on the spec sheet to drive Toyota to build an even better truck. Hopefully you can at least agree on that and move on. I’m out of the thread. See you around. I can’t wait to see the Ranger enter the market and see what it really will be in term of as a truck and a sales number.

Looks like the first Ranger trim was available on 5th gen F-100 and wasn't carried over to the 6th gen. I didn't feel like reading all about Ford F100s, so I could be wrong.

For comparison sake, I'd only include the Ranger compact.

If all F100 Rangers, and Ranger compact are counted as Rangers. There are probably more Rangers on the road than 1st gen Tacomas.

So much to unpack. I wouldn't know where to begin to respond. Generalizations about my family, the fact I'm here defending a purchase, all Tacomas in Canada by you are via the USA, Rangers hold up better because you see more, I'm sure I'm missing some. I'm definitely out this time, lol

The irony that a guy comes into a thread in the "no Toyotas" subforum, bitching about the thread not being about Toyotas.

Not surprised he's a third genner.

There are more Rangers on the road overall... basic statistics.

Ranger: Sold from 1983 to 2011... cheaper than Tacoma. Outsold them 3 to 1 from 1996 to 2005. Number 1 selling midsized pickup pretty much it's entire life.

Yea, they are notably less reliable... but parts for a Ranger are waaaay less expensive and most parts are interchangeable between generations being they utilized the same basic foundation. Oh, and you can pull from an Explorer too. (Most of my interior in my 95 was out of an 04 SportTrac, including gauge cluster. Try using newer gen parts in a 1st gen Taco)

Nope. Sold it since I have a 130 mile commute.

And now I can become a mod.

#4 Ford has the balls to build a factory LT truck in both full-size and midsize, and make it profitable, while Toyota is too much of a pussy to do it.

295 tires factory. Cast magnesium sliders? Paddle shifters? :goingcrazy:

^They can't charge $75k for it if they put the wheel on the correct side. :p
