One of the front shocks "exploded" so they said both have to be done (however they will do it at a reduced labor rate) 390$

    Bad U joint 283$

Steering system rack needs to be replaced
    Pump
    Lines
    Intermediate shaft frozen

    1674$

    total 2347$

They said if the rack is put in when the frame gets swapped its only 30mins of labor if not then its 7 hours..., they are also using a NAPA steering rack.

Does that seem a bit high for the rack, pump, lines and intermediate shaft?

I'm even more upset about the shocks, they go for about 150$ and I can install them myself! ack

They are doing the rust recall? If so they are being paid 40 hours to remove almost everything and transfer to the new frame. I don't see how they can charge you labour for the shocks or rack

Yeah, they're double dipping. I can see paying for new parts but getting paid twice on labor? Really!?!?

Check out the Napa website to see how much they want for the rack. Compare it to how much the stealership wants to charge you for the same thing.
If it were me, I would tell them to just change the fucking frame and take care of the rest on my own.

$283 for a u-joint?? Yea, they are screwing you

Id tell them you found a dealer who will do the additional parts at a cheaper rate while doing your frame.

What a Napa reman rack retails for is not what the shop will pay either... Most shops get it for cost then mark it up to some extent...

no kidding huh? I dont mind paying for the parts but this is redic.

not a bad idea, supposedly they HAVE to do the shocks because one "blew up" so I may have them just do those.

however. can I find toyota parts for a cheaper price and forward them the link?

    IRA

do they usually lessen the price for saying that?

I'm going to ask them for the breakdown of parts/labor.

even with replacing the lines, pump and rack it sounds like it should be less than 1600$

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
You can order the complete quick strut for $400 for both sides with NO labor to install, since they have to be pulled anyhow to change the frame...It looks to me that they are being very well paid for the add-ons.

How did a shock "blow up"? hit it with a torch? Shocks don't just blow up, I would be pushing for at minimum you pay cost on parts and they should do the labour free.

It would be worth a shot. Gotta think they are getting paid by toyota to do the frame, your doing them a favor, they should have to earn your business not double dip and be greedy.

    Nothing yet
Dealer makes around 11k to 14k on doing the frame recall, I had all my shocks replaced with billies and they never charged me... Said what ever I wanted to have installed free labor...

Wow. In that case I'll just tell them to button the truck up and I'll take it somewhere else.

Anyone know how many hours a steering rack takes? Dealership said it would take around 7 hours and would be an extra 805$ in labor if I didn't do it while the frame was off.

Did you notice any problems with the rack before you took it in? What did they say was wrong with it?

Most of what you described has to come off anyways. They should not charge for you any additional labor for anything.

I would ask to see the shock and see how it "exploded" if its something they did such as put a torch on it or something from disassembly then make them pay for it.

I just went through the frame replacement, be careful and stick to your guns. and make sure you check the truck out thoroughly once you get it back for shit that isnt right. I brought mine back with a laundry list of things wrong.

The front struts have to come off, they should not charge you to replace them. The only labor i can see them being able to justify charging is to disassemble the old ones /assemble the new ones. If you were smart find a set of take off's or used onese already assembled in the classifieds here and drop them off. At that point there should be no labor and you can probably get new ones here for ~$100

With the u joints i can see them charging labor to change them out on the drive shaft but the labor shouldn't be to take the drive shaft in or out. $283 is ridiculous.

As far as the rack goes it should all be coming off with the frame. charging labor on that is BS. I would pick up your own rack and drop it off. Tell them its coming off anyways and just put the new one in as they go.

Im glad i didn't go to IRA
