Yep I’m going totaled. It almost looks canted with the shot down the passenger side.

 

My dad had almost same looking accident and what appears to Be a very similar level of damage three or four months ago on his access cab Tacoma and that was a total loss. Can’t see how far in the damage goes though

 

There would be a bit of liability putting that back on the road with the airbags, frame etc. that’s a BIG lawsuit in a lot of ways if a future accident or injury is associated with putting that back on the road…Insurance companies are still risk averse even when it occasionally costs them money.

I believe it’s more a liability concern if they fail to work properly, not to mention they are expensive. Probably close to 10,000 alone for what needs to be replaced in his truck by themselves.

 

The bags are expensive and part of a system that includes expensive sensors. When you start messing with these systems outside of original manufacturing you increase the potential for failure and liability. Combine that with repaired structural damage and if someone were to crash or be injured, the insurance company, along with the repair shop, and parts manufacturer would all end up being part of a lawsuit and the optics would not be favorable for them from the start.

 

I strongly agree with this. I’ve had a couple of vehicles be borderline total loss. Insurance company said they wanted to fix it both times. I told them no. They eventually agreed.

Sorry for your situation OP and glad you (and hopefully anyone involved) are not seriously hurt. Trucks are replaceable at the end of the day, even if it does suck.

 

$10k for air bags? there's no way. I am looking this up. lol

 

If it is within spec, it's within spec. why would the parts manufacturer be brought into the lawsuit?
