I know this has been beat to death on here, but to many Taco owners have a different experience. I got an 01, 3.4,4x4, auto, with 410 gears, and 285-75-16.(with gps) At 65mph, my RPMs at 3000,....55mph, rps at 2500....stock tires wer supposed to be 225's. now, last week, I re-geared to 5.29..this week Im going to 315-75-16...dont even want to get in to the speed o issue right now..lol!..but seems to me those rpms wer always high... but I bought the truck used, Im wondering if the t-case had been re-geared b-4 I bought it? The tire calc on TW indicates that I might have 4.56 gears, but I checked(by drive shaft rotation),and theyre 4.10,also the door sticker says BO3A. and the grimmjeeper calculator, dont get it quit ritgh too...Is my truck a 4 or 5 speed auto, because apparently theres both????
So this is what I want to know.....Whats my gearing, and Why are my rpms so high?

I have 285/75/16 and my speedo at 65. My rpm's are like 2000. I have 4:10's in mine. You must have a different gear ratio in it.

The stock t-case CANNOT be re-geared. Its a chain-driven case.

well, thanx for that input tan4x4, so do you think the Tach could be off? The rpms just have always seemed obsessive to me. too many people say 2000 rpm @ 65.....with my auto....Ive never seen that.....even with stock gears and 33's!!!????

FYI to OP when asking about speed and RPMs in regards to gear ratios always know whether people are talking about GPS speed or speedometer speeds. I have gathered that for a 3.4 with auto 65mph on speedometer is about 2000RPM for the manual trans 3.4 the RPMS are higher. For instance my GPS speed (I don't recall my speedometer speed) on my manual trans Taco is 54mph when at 2000RPM and that is even with 33s. All this is just food for thought.

speedo is controlled by either a sensor in the T-case or in my case with the older 1st gens a mechanical cable in the T-case. pretty sure transmission doesn't affect the speedo

    My rpm's are 2300 at 65mph.

This is with a 2.7 motor, automatic in 4th (overdrive),
stock tires (31") stock gears (4.56).

Are you sure that you're in top gear when checking?
With the OD off, my rpm's are over 3k.
