The truck doesn't need to be longer, but it could certainly be a few inches wider. Whenever I have another person in the truck, there is an awful lot of elbow touching happening. lol

Yeah which is why it’s the perfect date vehicle. If I were in a raptor I’d need to relay the message.

Diesel is pretty much dead, my dude. It's basically impossible to get to comply with US EPA standards, there is almost no demand for it here, and in even in its home (Europe) it's rapidly being phased out.

Toyota, PLEASE make the next Tacoma slightly smaller in width like the old Japanese trucks but increase the damn headroom.

Car makers keep upsizing each new generation. A good example is the newly released 3-series BMW. It’s now as large as the older generation 5-series.

Normal high production models have a 5 year cycle. 2020 could be the final year for the Tacoma under that. However it’s toyota and they are pretty slow when it come to anything with their trucks. However since truck sales are huge right now and car sales shrinking, anything is possible. I would of assumed the new tundra was close to release by now but it’s already 2019 and now they are talking a shared platform. So they still are drafting or finalizing the design and getting ready to throw it into production.

I guess we’ll see what happens.

If it’s a shared platform the Tacoma will get wider, heavier and still probably be underpowered. At that point I would assume you’d be better off just going with the tundra.

I agree. They are full of emission sensors, a diesel particulate filter, DEF injector pump, etc. Translation? Tons of shi_ to go wrong down the road and it’s not cheap to fix. All of the fuel savings are thrown out the window when you purchase a diesel.

I wouldn’t think we will see anything new until 25/26. Even if they plan to combine the manufacturing my guess is you wouldn’t put 2 of your best models on new gens at the same time. I would guess you would test the waters and keep running the old tooling until it’s really ready to be done and things get worked out with the tundra. Tacoma is golden child right now, until sales slump there isnt much reason to change it up. Just prepare for it and be ready in time. Beyond that I doubt diesel, my guess is hybrid and test on new tundra. Also I doubt any are getting smaller. That’s not the general move in cars

Their aren’t really any fuel savings when it cost 140% more than gasoline.

Everyone wants a diesel until it’s time to buy one. And a few who buy them regret them. Most don’t realize the cost of ownership. Not only do they cost more upfront. They are also more expensive to service.

And in a mid size hauling and towing and pretty limited anyway. Very little benefits for vast majority of owners.

Toyota is trying to push out its TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) truck platform as soon as possible. This is consistent with a insider that posted here a while ago, and its also consistent with a few articles including a interview with Mike Sweers.

All the Toyota Trucks will be on a shared TNGA. All signs point to this happening within the next five years.

    https://global.toyota/en/mobility/tnga/

The Rumor is that the V8 will be killed off completely in the GX, Tundra, Landcruiser, GS F, and RCF. They already killed the V8 in the LS. If you like a V8, its probably best to buy one while you can. All the Automotive companies are going to kill them off soon.

I still don't get how the Tacoma and Tundra are going to share the same platform. The Tundra is like the size of an aircraft carrier.

A relative owns a ZR2 with the baby Duramax 2.8L 4-cylinder made in Thailand. It’s a great truck with gobs off torque, but he’s worried about all of the diesel emission sensors and crap going south after the warranty expires.

Thankfully the odds of that happening are less than zero. With the future Taco and Tundra sharing the same platform, the Taco is likely to get a lot bigger.

Don't forget the renegotiated trade agreement with Mexico which is likely also in play. With that much money, saving 25-50 million can swing a decision.
