I wondering why so many people on the forum are clamoring for a Tacoma diesel?

Is it to more efficiently haul their bed racks, rtts, and empty rotopax to the local Target?

Is it to feel the mighty low rpm torque as you putt from stoplight to stoplight on your way to chik-fil-a?

Is it for the supposed increased durability?

Is it to be able to brag at the local community pool that the truck has a whopping 175 hp but 400 ft-lbs of torque?

Is it for the decreased operating costs?

Is it so they can tow their massive 2500 lb pop up campers more capably?

The Tacoma does not need a diesel.

More importantly, this forum cannot handle a diesel. We have forum members draining their trannies when they try to change their oil. We have forum members complaining about having to remove four fucking bolts to drop the skid plate.

We have a constant low grade on going bitch fest about how hard it is to deal with the oil filter on the third gen.

Half the people on this forum either can’t or won’t read the owners manual.

Imagine how TW will implode into a mewling constant stream of whining, hand wringing and hair pulling when confronted with adding DEF, having to change fuel filters or having to deal with scheduled EGR maintenance.

Imagine the constant never ending threads debating which DEF is best, or questioning what the little “curly-q” on the cluster is every time the truck is turned on....or questioning why every 400 miles it smells like two skunks fucking under the truck.

Better yet, imagine the anguish of the 4.0 aficionados when that torque monster of an engine is completely pantsed by a small, emissions-crippled diesel never intended for the US market.

So I ask any of the members clamoring for a Taco diesel......

    Why?

    You're joking right?

Firstly, the body shell itself has in fact changed.
Secondly, the underlying frame and chassis has changed as well. Same basic design (leaf sprung solid rear axle with independent front suspension), but Toyota is in fact updating the components that make up that design. This is no different from the other midsized and 1/2 ton trucks which are also relying on designs and, in some cases, powertrains that have been around for +10 years.

Just spending 5 minutes in a 2G should prove to anyone that the 3G is not merely a "refreshed" version.

No chance 2020 is the last of the 3rd Gen, they are just releasing the refresh for 2020.

I think the Frontier uses the same frame as the Titan so I guess it's possible.

There is, but my power stroke 350 was a amazing truck. I would be interested in a diesel if it wasn’t like the canyon where it’s such a increase in price . Saw a 4x4 for 29 and next to it was a bison about 50k.

2021 redesign for the Tundra and 2023 for the Tacoma. Both moving to a modular/scalable global platform dubbed F1 which will be shared with the Hilux.

I could see a hybrid version coming out before a diesel, but then again Toyota has always been real slow about change or even keeping up the rest of the auto industry - like android auto or apple car play or led headlights or for god sakes, passenger side keyless handle. That should have been on the '17 tacoma before the 2020

I agree. Only because it’s toyota. Hell they will probably go atleast 7 years with this current model.

I’m sure tons of engineering went into that power seat, clearly it must since power seats have been around for 40 years. And also these new headlights. Pretty sure they only did that because the headlight ratings are poor.

Don’t worry guys, Toyota is still developing rear disk brakes for the Tacoma and rumor has it, they just may finish before the 4th gen is ready for production.

I guess sliders on the Taco would need to be about 13"wide, and about 34" wide on the Tundy :)

I have been reading on line for the past few months that the 2020 - 2021 Tundra's will be coming out with a diesel. The new diesel will most likely be the same diesel that the Dodge Ram uses, the Cummins. That may be interesting in a Tundra and very tempting to trade in my 2013 Tacoma for the new diesel Tundra. I'm hoping that what I have been reading does in fact come true.

I know it's not the same (so don't bite my head off), but I put 400K on a diesel Jetta with very little maintenance. And got 45-50 mpg. Of course every time I started it up the emissions killed a polar bear.
So I'm at least curious about a diesel mid sized truck. Esp given that their reliability has been proven in other parts of the world.

It’s the emissions system that’s the killer.

What works in parts of the world without EGR and SCR can’t even be mentioned in the same sentence as the US.

Nope, it's almost too wide already. The full size Ford 150 is only 4.9" wider.

If you're bumping elbows move up to a Tundra.

I know, my filthy diesel prob should not have been allowed on the road. Seems like most successful diesels here get caught for emissions cheating.

Cummins makes more than one diesel engine. The B-series engine has never ever been even rumored to be in the Tundra.

What’s been rumored is the ISV5.0 which is a V8 and a piece of crap.

So, keeping in mind that there are all rumors, and keeping in mind that b-series is not part of these rumors, and keeping in mind that the problem plagued 5.0 is the center of the rumor....have your hopes changed?
