I just wanted to get some thoughts or comments on the grille I just put in. It's just one off ebay that saved me a little over getting a color matched stock or grillecraft/satoshi. I saw another guy on here that had this on his black truck and thought I'd try it out. I honestly can't decide if I like the black of this with the MGM. I just kinda seems to stick out like a sore thumb.
I am however getting black raceline renegade 6's that are getting in this week so going towards the black overall which might help it not stick out so much. Either way, I just had to get that chrome grille off of it!!
Let me know what yall think...

I like the overall look but also agree about the black jumping out at you.

I was looking at the same grille but maybe 2 days ago and couldnt stand the gloss look of it. It doesnt look bad it is definitely an upgrade from our chrome grilles. I have a Dark Blue truck so I feel your pain on matching colors like the rest of us lol. Now I think what it needs now is some black headlights to make it all come together up there. It would definitely be looking real good with the headlights.

I am going to go the little more expensive route and get an OEM replacement grille which is ready to paint and got in that group buy of the elusive elements grille.
Im going to paint the Grille flat black to match all the powder coated stuff ill have on the truck. I also got flat black halo headlights to tie in the front end.

Anyways sweet looking truck and grille some headlights and itlle be looking real good!

I think you should get it color matched. Just doesn't seem to flow with the truck and I don't think the fact that the wheels are gonna be black will help it any to be honest. I like the grille part just don't like that gloss black on the sorrounding.

I like the look of it.

I just painted my gray/silver cross members and emblem black on my '10 ...... a more agressive look.

Stay with it for a while and it wil most likely grow on you.

Just have the outer area color matched. It doesn't go with the MGM, and this grill requires more mods as it looks pissed off. Not a grill for a stock truck.

Thanks for the input everyone. I agree that the BHLM would help and I'm now looking into that mod as well. I also might try out painting my stock chrome bumper a satin black and see if I like that more. I've heard mixed things on painting over the chrome and I know my chrome bumper on my old 4runner chipped pretty quickly after I painted it black.
Either way, one of these grilles will be up for sale soon and I'll post pics if I paint my stocker.

I really like your grill. Subtle, yet definitely something different. Looks very professionally done.

So I've got my wheels and black headlights now and the grille definitely goes better with it now. Think I'm gonna keep it for a while!

Looks much better with the BHLM.

Something else to consider is taking the grill out and painting everything behind it flat black. I did that and it made a world of difference IMO.

So I finally got my stock grille finished up. Everything went really well until I removed the painter's tape that I had used to cover the mesh center and triangle pieces. As I peeled it off, it pulled up a bunch of the paint around the edges.
The color ended up being pretty damn close and as others' have mentioned, it's mostly the finish that doesn't match as well.
Anyway, here are some pics of it on the truck and close ups of the spots that peeled back. Needless to say I'm taking it off and trying to decide whether to strip it down and try again or just sell it cheap.
Just wanted to give a little heads up to anyone interested in doing this to be careful when removing the tape.

I think the mesh grill in the OP looks pretty good from some angles, and then at other times it looks like a small chain link fence in there.

yeah, it's grown on me but I really like the look look of the stock one. Think I'm gonna strip it down and try again. Maybe just paint the triangles this time though instead of trying to tape them up

Looks like you waited too long to pull the tape.

You have to pull the tape as soon as possible to avoid what happened.

Or if you do wait, leave it on until the paint drys, and cut along the edge of the tape with a hobby knife of razor blade to cut the paint on the body free from the tape.

Yeah, it ended up being on there a little over 2 weeks. Simply got busy and it got put aside. I've separated the chrome from the base of the grille now so there's no need to tape anything and I'm going to strip down the paint and start over tonight.

Yeah I hear ya. After getting the stock one back on for a brief moment today, I definitely want to fix the paint and reinstall it.

I kind of like the ebay grill. I was thinking of it and color matching the outer part. not real big on the gloss black finish.
