See its prefrence...i cant stand CLP.
870 shotgun is pretty clean shooting. Takes a lot rounds to really have issues, after all its a pump.

The pump slide needs some lube! lol

Shotgun sat for a while...so dislodging empty was tight!

I shot maybe 12 rounds and had slight bruising on my shoulder.

I wore layers and had an Army pattern jacket/parka and still felt the recoil. Hahaha!

Lena is someone I’ve come across who I think is actually an expert, I’ve seen a few of her drill videos and think she has great advice for new shooters.

And that's why I don't like ranges. I don't trust the person next to me no matter how experienced they are.

OP, check with your local gun store or gun club. Some offer training classes.

What is missing here is know your legal rights and how to handle your mouth in case, heaven forbid your involved in a self defense synario situation. Keep a phone number and guide in your safe, readily avalible. Know your rights like you know your firearm.

Great advice, the place I started my training has a few lawyers on staff and they offer one on one consultations to help us understand our rights.

    Being in California, critical service

Exactly. AZ has less restrictive ownership laws than CA, but when bullet-hits-body you still need to prove your case and respect the law.

Remington 870 pump shotgun. I recommend a 20 gauge as they are easily handled and light. Improved cylinder choke with #4 or #2 shot. Someone breaks into your house. Rack one into the chamber. The hair on their head will stand straight up. Don’t ask questions. Cut them in half and get a squeegee, bucket and mop. Makes a mess. Yep, deterrent! Don’t advertise that you have one.

This girl: Lena Miculek has popped up on my YouTube feed and I'm suddenly feeling like I need to be a better shooter! (jokes welcome!) lol

Goto: 2:40 and watch how she shoots!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeQNM4AV-3U&t=179s

I have the 20G Remington Police 870 Shotgun...got lucky with the sale as it was not needed/being used by Delaware LE.

Shot it a couple weeks back and have yet to clean it! (Shame on me)

Anyhow, back to OP...how's the anticipating going?

If you have to chamber a round you’re already behind the curve in a game where seconds have literal life and death consequences. A firearm with an empty chamber is a liability.

Been there OP, let me save you hours of BS on youtube.

This is all you need to know for maintenance:

Use CLP to clean and lube all parts
    Best stuff the market
    >Skip Rem Oil, its outdated.
    >Remove all wood furniture before applying solvents

    >Hoppe’s no 9 bore cleaner is great for soot in the barrel but it is STRONG and will give u a headache so do it somewhere ventilated
    >Hoppe’s makes square cut patches for the barrel cleaning rod that are WAY cheaper than the other round ones.

    >Cut up an old cotton t-shirt for rags, to clean slide rails, muzzle, and all that. Don’t use paper towels or q-tips they will leave fuzz.
    >Copper brush is good for nooks and crannies, soft enough to not hurt your finish. Brush gently…

    >Also, i bought a rubber work mat from Jegs so i dont get all that grime on my table

    >Last, a little CLP goes a long way, don't gunk up your piece, wipe off excess before re assembly

    >Final note, to keep dust off your shotty, buy a gun sock

Debatable because shotgun drop safety is not the same thing as that of modern handguns.

and this is coming from somebody who has a friend who blew two fingers off because he bumped a wingmaster when trying to clear a fence.

you’ve summarized well where I’ve landed with all of this. The feedback from this group has been really helpful and helped me narrow my view.

I built up this set, obviously all new, I’ll be doing first cleaning tomorrow night on the 9.

    IMG_1244.jpg

yeah, no mas YT, not that it’s all bad, but being a noob, I don’t always know what’s good and bad; and that applies to a lot of what we all learn about other topics.

IE, some of the YT foolery with people using gouges on a wood lathe spinning 1000+ rpm, downright frightening, but if you’re learning, you might not anticipate what you don’t know.

Looks like you are well equipped! Have fun! I always kinda feel like an old school badass cleaning my guns. Must have seen it in a mafia movie or something when i was a kid.

Best early warning would be a dog. Then chamber a round.
BTW, I have both. I Live in a rural setting where we have little crime. My house is secure. It would require crashing through the door to get in. Doors are heavy as we have lots of griz in this area. A home invader would feed a hungry grin for a day.
