Hi Toyota homies. :) I have a 2014 Toyota Tacoma double cab sr5. I joined to find towing recommendations. I have a 1973 boiler travel trailer 1000 lbs no breaks. Only trailer I have ever owned. How ever I am looking at buy a new trailer that weighs just under 4300 lbs and I'm a bit nervous. I will need to install a break controller and maybe a sway bar but have no idea about those kind of things. I guess my next stop is the towing forms.

Welcome. Lots of good info >>>https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-tacoma-towing-bible.4031/
You will need a brake controller. A WD hitch with sway control is a good idea. If you notice too much sag, air bags would be a good investment. Note: airbags DO NOT increase a vehicles load capabilities, just improve how it handles the load.

The airstream is currently being rebuilt and is extremely light.
I have towed/hauled +6k, but I wouldn't recommend going into that range without experience and properly setup with airbags/ WD hitch/ sway control.
At 4200lbs, you will benefit from having airbags.

It's been said, and I will reinforce the airbags.

So what do the airbags do for you?

They help eliminate squat. With the weak springs in the Tacomas, adding tongue weight to the hitch will cause the rear of the truck to lower and front of the truck to lift. This will reduce steering and braking control. The airbags put pressure between the axle and the frame reducing the squat and also reducing the lever action adding tongue weight (or load weight in general) allowing the truck to stay level and maintain proper contact of all 4 tires.

I see :) fantastic explain. Sumosprings sound cool too. Thanks I will look into it. Pulling my boiler I never worried about these kinds of things.

Yeah. With what I tow, without airbags, I'd be on the bump stops. They are easy to install and if you don't want to have to worry about airing them up with a load and releasing air when unloaded, there are also automatic leveling kits. You just set the sensor with the truck unloaded at the ride height you want, then it will automatically add or dump air to maintain that height.
I haven't used sumosprings, so I can't comment on them.
There are a lot of things to consider when getting into towing heavier trailers, but it is better to get set up right and have a safe trip rather than skip stuff and have an unpleasant &/or unsafe trip.
