    Hello,
Should be taking delivery of a Manetic Grey Metalitic 2018 Double cab long bed TRD OR in the next month or so. I’m coming from a 2008 Gen 2 (double cab long bed SR5). Kind of bummed about my ‘08 Taco. I wasn’t ready to move on yet but got rear ended mid-January by a school bus while I was towing a trailer and it caused frame damage. The bus’ insurance company won’t replace frames so I ended up getting paid out for the truck and trailer.

But the more I look at the Gen 3’s the more I’m liking them. Not sure how much I’ll get into modding this one, but on the ‘08 I lifted front and rear using Bilstein 5100’s w/ OME coil overs and add-a-leaf so I could run 32” tires, aFe CAI and Borla catback, Snugtop canopy, aluminum side steps, aftermarket stereo, plus I built a platform in the bed with 5’ drawers.

This will be my 3rd Toyota, prior to this had a 1997 T-100. Looking forward to learning more about my new truck. Thanks for having me.

Thanks fellas, no injuries either to me or the kiddos on the bus. Only casualty was my truck and trailer. The trailer I’m not so attached to, it was just a 6x12 utility trailer. But the truck was in great shape for an ‘08 and only had 67K on it. Getting rear ended in the trailer put all the stress on the receiver hitch which in turn transfered all the energy to the frame. I almost think the damage would have been less had the bus just hit the truck instead.

You don’t realize how much you miss something until it’s gone.

I can see that you guys are going to cost me money. I’ve been reading about what you’ve done to your Gen 3’s and that’s lit the urge to get back into vehicle modding.

    Update:

    Truck... CHECK
Start buying stuff for it... CHECK

I originally ordered my 2018 DCLB OR with a delivery date of early June but dealer located one just like I wanted coming from the factory destined for another dealer. They swapped allocations and I got this one. That cut the wait time to half and it showed up last week.

Seeing as I keep vehicles for 10 years-ish (I had a ‘97 T100 and ‘08 Gen 2 prior to this...see the pattern?) I got the Premium-Tech package b/c I’m getting close to AARP age and I like my amenities. Plus my wife wanted the heated seats and I wanted the dual climate control so my wife doesn’t smoke me on trips with the heat on full blast. I was on the fence with the moonroof, but now that I have it I really like it. The JBL is nice, but I’m half deaf and not really an audiophile. But I do like the size of the big touch screen.

The only items that I didn’t want that came with this particular truck were the bedstep and bed mat. The bed mat is nice but I’m probably not going to need it since I’ll be transferring my 6’ drawer system from my ‘08 to the ‘18. I’m still scratching my head over the bedstep. If the truck was taller I could see it being helpful, but once the canopy goes on I doubt I’ll ever use it.

Back to buying stuff: Got my canopy ordered. I had a Snugtop on my ‘08 and never had any problems with it so got a Snugtop Rebel for this one. Also ordered some Wet Okole seat covers since I have dogs and have had good luck with WO on my other vehicles. Weathertech floor mats will probably get ordered soon since the coverage of the OEM floor mats are kind of minimal and I have WTs on all my other vehicles. I’m also looking at options to mount a RAM mount for my iPhone and places to stash other items I normally keep in the truck.

I’m only on my second tank of gas but no buyers remorse. Maybe my memory of the Gen 2 stock suspension had fadded, but I like how the Gen 3 rides. On my ‘08 the stock suspension drove me nuts and I changed it out to Bilsteins and 885 coils and rear AAL, but on this one I’m not feeling the immediate need to change bc I like how it handles. Plus the main reason I lifted my ‘08 was to put 32” tires on it, and seeing as we can already do that on Gen 3s I may not do a lift... But I’m waiting to see what happens to the rear once the canopy and my bed drawers get installed (estimating 300-350 lbs). Plus my intended use of this truck is primarily 1) to get me to the trailhead for hiking and backpacking, 2) I shoot a lot so weekly trips to the range or out-of-town trips for major matches. Some of those matches require a lot of crap, plus sometimes I can dry camp at the host range and live out of the back of the truck. If I do any “off-roading” it’s for the purpose of getting me to where I want to go be it in the mountains or desert.

    Cheers fellas
