I looked at the P2000 yesterday too....That is what my brother carries for the boarder patrol (LEO Edition) and he isnt a fan of it...I liked the night sights better on the Glock I think also

I just dont think i want to shell out the extra$$$ for the HK just yet.

My plan is to go a little cheaper this time around, and then go to a compact/sub .45 a little more down the road for a CCW gun.

Is it the USP with the external safety?

Yes HK USP has external safety.

Just as a little counter to you line of thinking, I have never bought a new HK. I paid $550 for my P2000 with three mags in the case used last year, that was when prices were crazy. So look around for a used HK, if you like them and can get a good price. Oh and your brother in-law only has one very uncommon version of the P2000 so take that into account too. Just some food for thought.

I love my springfield xd40. I have a 5" stainless service model, one of the older ones with the single stack clip. I've had probably 2000 rounds through it, and I don't think it's misfired or FTE once. I wish it was one of the newer ones though- you get all the fun stuff extras and the extra capacity with the new package. If you want to actually carry it, I'd go with a compact or subcompact- the 5" is too bulky for my taste. I have a Kel-Tec P3AT for CC.

    i carry a G27 off duty

The other guns are nice guns...but I'm one of those that the glock fits my hand better than anything else ive held...

one thing a lot of people dont realize about a glock...after the first trigger pull...as you release the trigger you'll feel 2 clicks...the second one is when it stops...if you stop it after the first click...it cuts the trigger pull weight in half and makes firing that second round a whole lot easier

Hk p2000 is my favorite but if you cant afford then u cant afford. In my opinion the glocks are the "cool" thing right now. I think for feel and durability they are crap. But in the sub $400 market i guess they cant be beat.

BTW first pistol there is no reason not to go with a 9mm. I hear the xds now hold 19+1 rounds. nice!
