do those lamin-x ones work well?

 

I have the yellow ones on mine and I never had any issues so far. Other people dont prefer them though so they just spray tint them. But everyone I know that have them dont have any issues.

now i'm debating painting my skid plate of just taking it off.

I just dont want it to look like hell if i rattle can it...think the hammered black paint would look alright?

 

^ if you prep it well enough and take your time, i wont look like shit. Bedliner looks pretty good

 

Are you talking about the "extra" silver/gray "skid" plate?

 

wtf are you talking about lol. I'm talking about painting the stock skid plate on my 05.

 

our trucks came with a flimsy rubbery plastic skid plate, and an optional Toyota skid plate that was silverish. Im assuming you're talking about the flimsy black one?

The TRD's also have a smaller metal black one... all are more or less useless as real skids though.

I am the least patient woman in the world when it comes to moding my truck lol didn't want to wait for help so I just did it myself

I keep thinking she's almost done and then i find more crap to do to her

 

That's what I was talking about. Personally, I like the look of the optional silver "skid" plate. It's not very strong or functional but I like the look.

Of course, It's all up to you.

 

I say go with a budbuilt or other aftermarket skid plate. I have banged mine up enough to know the stockers or the optional silvers ones cant really protect you from that much

As mentioned earlier, with the right prep work a rattle can job can look decent. I've seen a bunch of other folks on here with that optional skid plate painted...looked great! I actually thought it was also sold in black with the TRD logo on it, but I was wrong.
