Hey guys. I'm looking into replacing my Entune 2.0 headunit with a new one that has carplay and a navigation system that doesn't intentionally direct me into traffic jams like the stock system. Of course, there is plenty of head units on the market but I am trying to find one that still has an actual volume knob and also looks like it belongs in the Tacoma dash. If it requires any kind of adapter plate around the screen to fit or I have to tap a volume up button 30 times to hear it I don't want anything to do with it. I have seen some posts about the Corolla head unit by Joying that fits the Tacomas but I'm not sure if I trust that Chinese junk. Any other suggestions or stories of good luck with the Joying?

I love my Kenwood DMX1057XR, but it's a floating screen and that is not for everyone.

I have had the joying one in my truck for over two years now. Have updated from there website once with firmware. Never gave me an issue and I like wired or wireless carplay. Since it is essentially an android tablet I put a bunch of apps on it you normally would not get on a car stereo. I have things like my delorme earthmate app which has high res topos on it which I use for offroad use when I don't have cell service. I used the AGAMA car launcher as the front end for everything. I also use an OBD dongle that is compatible with it and loaded my OBD fusion app on it so I don't need my phone for all the guages and PID info..
Units has a few quirks such as I have to turn up the volume for carplay phone calls, and you don't have a lot of the mileage info and stuff that the old head unit stored. Also can't adjust door unlock features and stuff like that with it. You have to know use techstream. For me it has been fun as I like to putter around and work on things, and for the price I could not beat it.

Pretty hard to find head units with actual knobs these days. I have a Dasaita Max11 android head unit and have no real complaints so far. Has android auto and apple carplay. You can also download google maps or waze if that's what you prefer. No need for an adapter plate, only slight modification of the stock head unit bracket and its also plug and play. Lots of information on Dasaitas or any other android head units on here.

I installed a Sony unit. No knobs but there are buttons that you can press and hold to increase or decrease the volume or change stations. Also all steeIMG_2505.jpg IMG_2504.jpg ring wheel controls were maintained.
