Hey everyone, just thought I'd drop by here and introduce myself. My name is Megan, and I live in outport Newfoundland, though I'm originally from New Brunswick. I'm a paramedic in a rural area. I love hunting and fishing and anything outdoors related, basically. I'm driving a 2011 TRD Off-Road access cab in Alpine White. Bought it new in 2012 - really live my Toy Truck. I've got about 80,000kms on it now, with probably at least ten trips back and forth from NB to NL. Only problem I've ever had is with paint bubbles on the door - dealer took it back in and painted it again in 2013, and the door is rusting again.

Any other common issues I should keep my eyes open for? I haven't done any mods - yet. Might have some planned the year, I'm not sure.

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the paint bubbling. That sucks! I got a 2013 and no issues there. That's strange that it's rusting so fast! Are they removing the old rust before painting? If the rust isn't removed it will just eat through the paint again. Maybe replace the door?

I assumed they fixed it properly when they did it, but we all know some like to cut corners. I'm eventually going to need a new drivers side door anyway - the wind took it here in NL and pretty much obliterated everything inside. Had to replace the motor for the window, the tracks, the regulator, etc. And the door check assembly, only to have to take it back a day later for them to weld something inside the door to keep it all together... I was told if there's any more issues with it, it will need replacing. Any idea what that would run me?

I'm thinking $450-$500. But that's just a quick goodie search I did. You could always go to a wreckage yard and see if there's a Tacoma in there with a good drivers door. Paying them for the door would be cheaper. And if your lucky it will already be white.

I'll have to check out what salvage yards have around here. With any luck I'll be able to score a half decent deal, since I've already sunk about $1500 in repairs in that door from the wind incident to begin with. Worst comes to worst, I have a buddy back in NB that does body work that could sandblast a door and paint it for me, if I can't score a white one.

    Thanks for the welcome, guys!

Not sure. Depending on what I'll end up spending, it may be cheaper to just fork out cash than pay a deductible. I'm guessing that there must have been moisture in the metal when they painted it to begin with, causing the bubbles, and the dealership didn't properly sand it down to get rid of the rust, which is disappointing. My first order of business will be to go after them, even though I have no warranty left and likely no leg to stand on, if they have any integrity, they should stand behind their work. Then again, when I questioned why they hadn't fixed the inner workings properly the first time I went in and had to go back for the spot weld, I was told "you never go the extra mile". All that tells me is that they won't get my business again when I look for a new Tacoma.
