    Hey guys,

I've been lurking for a while and signed up recently, and I've finally put down a deposit for a truck. The truck is a 2002 Tacoma Extended Cab 4x4 V6 TRD with 115k miles.

Since I found it at a Toyota dealership, they're running it through their 100 point inspection before I make a final decision. They've only had it a few days since it was traded in for something earlier this week.

I have a few questions about the truck - for these engines, what is worth checking for at 115k miles? Also, of the couple I've driven in the past two weeks, some of them (including this one) have had quite a lot of travel in the brake pedal - is this normal?

Thanks in advance for the help and hopefully I'll have some pics to put up before too long.

    Marc

Welcome to TW. Make sure you ask them to check the frame for rust. In areas where road salt is used, some of the frames on first gen. Tacomas are rusting out. Toyota is replacing frames on 2001-2004 trucks that are rusting, no charge. Look in the first generation section of this forum for more information.

oldtacomaguy - I know what you mean by the rust. I was close to buying a Tacoma with similar specs last week when my local mechanic red flagged it for rust, it was to the point where most of the bolts underneath didn't even have heads on them anymore.

Jester243 - thanks for the welcome!
