I’ve noticed a new “hum/vibration” almost like a rub sensation. Went into deal for 65k checkup. They said I’d lost a weight on a tire. (I hadn’t) doesn’t feel out of balance. They rotated wheels which seems to have made the issue “louder” hopefully not worse. Even so now my wife who usually oblivious to these things noticed “ I can hear it”
The dealer said everything appears “normal”
We just ended a 3k mile trip after dealer said “it should be good to go”. We’re home safe.
I wasn’t comfortable the whole trip feeling/hearing the noise.
People have suggested steel belt slipping in tires. It doesn’t feel like a tire issue.
    Someone else suggested pilot bearing
    Any ideas?

This could be almost anything. Tire tread, U-joint, bearing, normal, carrier bearing, gear noise.........

Have you done a lift? If so, how much?
    Type of tires?
    Audio?
    What modifications have you done?
    2WD or 4WD?
    Engine?
    Transmission?
How many miles on the truck?
    Maintenance history?

I thought I added this info when I created my acct.
it doesn’t show so here’s the details:

wheels:Fuel Covert w 285/70/17 Yokohama geolander a/t maybe 10k miles on them since installed

    Ironman stage 2 nitro 2.5-3”lift
    W performance leaf kit

audio is subject to another post at another time.

    Just turned 69k on 13 access 4.0L
Truck had less 24k when I bought it a few years back.

this noise/vibration started about 3 weeks ago.
You can’t “hear” without listening for it. you can feel it in steering.
As I stated earlier the dealer looked at u joints carrier bearing and everything that’s with the 65k checkup in the service manual.

    No
    But it has come up.
As I understand, that would make the truck feel more like a wheel being off balance.
Supposedly, I’m just under in my lift to warrant any changes like that but now I’m not so sure if I should drop the differential.

would this have been noticed when fluids changes in the differential?

I couldn't answer that question. But when i researched everything about lifting these trucks, there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to the lift height and the need to replace that bearing. Id start there. It seems like it could be a number of things.

Ill say this though, id find a quality mechanic and stop using the dealership. The dealer never impresses me with their problem solving "skills."

I don’t normally use the dealership. I have a trusted mechanic. He installed the lift. His shop has worked 5 different cars in 12 years with only 1 issue. Oddly enough on this truck. One of his shop mechanics ( self proclaimed he worked at Lexus) jacked up my drums in the rear & front discs trying to surface them. The shop replaced everything.
I’ve taken this truck to Toyota 2X just for book work mainly(check those boxes).
I just returned from a 3k mile trip in the truck I think the ECGS might be the issue. While on this trip , while in drive something unusual happened which made the truck “chirp” while shifting from a stoplight.

If noise goes away when in 4WD then this is prob the culprit.
