Hey guys I've been looking to get into a Tacoma for a little while now. I've been thinking about the new TRD Pro, or a TRD OR. But I have a few questions

When is the TRD Pro slated to be released? More specifically, does anyone know when the release will be in Canada? (I'm located in Vancouver, BC)

If I can't get the TRD Pro for whatever reason, I'd be looking into a TRD OR or a limited. One problem is that I want a double cab in the quicksand color, and in Canada apparently I can't get the TRD OR in double cab, only in the access cab. I tend to drive family around a lot so the access cab is out of question. I looked at the American Toyota website and I can get the TRD OR in double cab and in the Quicksand color. America also gets nicer accessories that I'd want as well. Only way I can get a double cab and in Quicksand up here is with the SR5 without the TRD sport package. if I wanted a double cab with the tech package Id either have to get a SR5 in a different color (none of which I like enough) or a limited. Both I can't get in Quicksand.

Can anyone shed some light on why Canada has such a limited range of options compared to America? The price is also astronomically different.....a spec'd out TRD pro with tech package and accessories I'd want is ~$42k USD which translates to ~$55k CAD, whereas a Limited here is ~$44k CAD

No idea why Toyota has the differences. I'm sure it's just market research to see what models are wanted by a majority of people. You can't compare a limited to a pro. You're kind of screwed with the exchange rates being what they are.

well my original thinking was if I couldn't get the TRD pro I'd settle for a limited. And then I realized I couldnt get the limited in Quicksand, and then I thought I'd get the TRD OR in Quicksand...and then I realized I couldn't get that in double cab.... I can't even get the TRD Sport in Quicksand!

Do you really need crawl control and a locker? My TRD sport dclb 4x4 has been more than capable. If you think you'll need it then stick to your guns.

I dont NEED crawl control, but I would prefer a locker. I do plan on going off road with the truck, but not rock crawling.

I'm planning on just adding an arb locker to my sport at some point down the line. If the sport is an option in quicksand you can go that route. The TRD pro won't be made in that color either.

Talk to the sales manager. They're going to hit in sept - October.

Sales reps are typically treated as mushrooms until available stock are all gone. It ain't 2017... Yet.

Oh trust me, this sales guy was beyond useless. All he was good for was getting the key so I could look inside the truck. He knew nothing about the trucks, aside from what configuration the ones we were looking at were in....didn't know any of the features, no technical knowledge. Couldn't answer any of my questions.

I opted to go with the 2016 TRD OR.

    Here's why.
    1. Didn't want to wait another year
    2. The TRD Pro is likely gonna be at least 2-3k more expensive, at least
    3. The only REAL change/update between the 2, other than aesthetics, is suspension. TRD OR has Bilsteins vs Pro's Fox (Fox might have 1" lift difference)

Basically, you'd be spending a few grand more for a slightly (don't quote me on this. The suspension might be amazing) better suspension package and some aesthetics (wheels, bed branding, and grille*)
*Toyota will likely sell for the aesthetics OEM - $1000 for TRD wheels, $150 for brand, $450 for grille - $1600-$1700 total

So far, I have loved my truck. No problems at all since I took it off the lot in February (I'm at 5k miles now) and I've been quite happy with it.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the aesthetic appeal of the TRD-Pro, but I think that is the main difference between OR and Pro - something where you can pick/choose the parts fairly easily once they are available.

At the end of the day though, it's still your truck and decision. This has just been my experience.

Like i said in my earlier post i was able to build the truck exactly how i want on the American website...I wonder if it's possible for Toyota to have one brought up from the States....which would be amazing

It's possible, though I bet you'd pay an arm and a leg for shipping. Might be cheaper, though less practical for you, to come down and get it.

Im not so sure about that. If I were to directly pay through the exchange rate the TRD OR I want would end up being ~$10k more than msrp on the limited...iirc about $55k

Interesting. I wonder if the build site on Toyota.ca is the same as the US version.

Basically some combinations are not available, if they are not building them in your region. For example, when I was looking for my truck, the build site in my region says that I cannot get the BBP color in Sport, when clearly it is available. If I select a different zip code, I can see the truck available.

I thought that as well. Changed my region to Alberta instead of British Columbia, nothing changed. I noticed that the States has different accessories too..a lot that I like.
