The tacoma still has a better towing capacity than the v8 colorado. Besides my friend has one of those Z71 colorados it's a POS they had to offer the V-8 the I4 and I5's are worth less thay needed to give it a bigger v-6 and they would be ok not better that the tacoma but just ok.

    TACOMA!!!

I thought about this for a long time Tacoma vs. ???, and every time I kept going back to it. This went on for 3 years, and I finally bought one a week ago.

First two fill ups 20 mpg and 19.6 mpg. This is all Pittsburgh CITY driving, up and down hills, and also fluctuating in speeds for proper break in.

Thanks guys, the Tacoma is deff. gonna get most of the choices and i figured that from the start i posted if you could do it over again, maybie the Tacos didnt hold up to what yall thought it would be and you would go back with a different choice what would that be. Not figure out which for me to get, in the long run ill probably get the Tacoma but theres allway that chance that they have problems and toyota seems to care less but the more i read the less that is. Ive owned several Toyotas and figured the Taco would be the best choice. But in todays economy theres so many choices/problems that needs to be researched.

I thank everyone who is helping, and that pic with the Taco pulling a Ford is sweet I would love to show some of my friends that who are Ford at heart. Thanks for the photo im sure thats every bit 4-5000 lbs. My concern was how well it did and youve answered so well with a pic Thanks:thumbsup:

I did see it had better towing Capacity but i figured it wouldnt strain as much pulling up the mountain. GM really could learn alot from the Tacoma. Everything about the Tacoma thus far is great I cant wait to take one for a spin.

Gas millage is for real? man thats killer, I also live around a lot of hills/mountains and 19-20 would deff. be a deal sealer. Anyone else claiming that much also, or is it in between. I had a 95 S10 V6 that got 22mpg and my 99 barely gets 17-18 I dunno? If most is getting 19-20 thats way better than any other Mid/truck
    Thanks,

Yeah, UHaul auto transports are 2klbs alone. So add that to whatever the truck weighs.... I have the tow package so I have the 6500lb rating, but still had to lie to UHaul and show them a higher GVWR on the door tag before they'd let me take the transport. Even a Chevy Lumina and transport were more than the Tacoma so my buddy and I say we're hauling a Ford Fiesta whenever we need to tow again. :D

I have a 3" spacer/AAL lift so the back always sags more than the front and makes it look like it sags more than it is since the front won't drop. One of these days I'll upgrade to leaf packs in the rear, and new coils up front. In the mean time some more pics:

I live in the mountains you wont see 19 to 20 mpg 16 to 17.5 maybe 18 on the highway's I mean flat land you should get 20 to 21 at 75ish with an auto.

I've towed a tandem axle trailer with 4 quads and a dirt bike, and 2 coolers full of beer, and the pickup bed FULL of firewood - not a problem at all. Uphil, no issue. I was able to pass people going up hills.

The gas is going to vary where you live to a certain extent. I used to live in high desert and noticed that when I went into the valley I would look for the turbo and extra gas tank that magically appeared.

In Portland traffic I get 18-19. A family friend wasn't sure about the towing capacity of the Tacoma, panicked, and got a Silverado 1500. He's upset because my towing capacity would have been just fine for his applications and he's getting 14 mpg.

I would say these two things:

-If I wanted a large truck, I would seriously consider the Chevy DuraMax. Seems like Chevy gets the diesel thing right...
-A Tacoma is not for a tall family man. Even if it's lil' old you, make sure you fit.

EDIT: I should also say that I wasn't impressed with the I5 Colorado. I liked the looks enough, but the performance was lacking. Very ho-hum engine and felt that it was designed to be a car. I don't know what the V8 brings.

Thanks, very good write up!! Im going friday to test drive one and check payments but more then likely im going to wait till feb. to use my taxes along with my trade in to get my payments below 400 a month. The more I read/see of the Tacoma's the more I want one. everybody has helped, and lucky me im only 5'7 so the Taco is going to be perfect in size.

Also I seen a guy on another web site that had a CC Tacoma and uses his to pull a 27ft camper, which is bigger than I have so the Taco will be just perfect Thanks,

well if youre towing a 4500 lb camper i would say wait till 1/2 ton diesels come out and just get one of those, dont get me wrong i love my little truck but when it come to hauling theres no such thing as an overkill to capacity i moved up from kingsville, texas otherwise known as ford country and ive owned my fair share of diesels and ill be honest with you i miss my power that im used to. just something to think about i know that new diesel ford is coming out with is really custome

That would be also nice to have but they said they werent going to build the diesel tundra in todays economy. Were gonna get a unibody truck called the A-Bat wooo hoooo lol thats a joke. If there going to do anything they need a diesel in the taco.
I remember the concept Jeep Pickup, which had a diesel in it producing 8000lb towing, and 30mpg. But even they are stupid saying the USA will never get it, instead there selling it in the middle east. The problem is theres too many hogs high up getting kick back off oil and nobody seems to care. Maybie one day toyota will see past this and start producing better more effeicentcy. Time will tell but until then I guess we still have the Tacoma for a while (hopefully)

I posted it here but I'll say it again, take a look at your local credit union and at the auto brokers. I have a 4.6% loan and got underneath dealer invoice price without negotiations. Granted, perfect credit helps ;)

I'd say go with the SRT-8 Challenger myself...

As far as the trucks go... the only two options that I considered was the frontier and taco... taco won, and I don't regret it. The only regret I have is getting a pre-runner over a 4x4, but even that's a small 'regret.'
