Taco man!! My buddy got a Colorado and he hates it. plus consumer reports rates them as junk also. Just my opinion. I've owed five S-10 and the newer they got the less reliable they got.

I voted for the tacoma, but thats because i have one, and i am at this site because its the best truck in my mind... thats why if you look at your poll results, you will notice it highly favors the Tacoma, most likely because this site is called: "Tacoma World". Can be translated to mean "The World of Tacomas" Which could lead one to believe that we have entered said world, where no other "truck" really "matters".

    good luck in your decision

I have a 20ft. CC boat, similar in weight to your 24ft. camper. I have towed it with my tacoma (2002, V6 ext. cab), but only short distances (marina and back). Otherwise, I use a full-size silverado V8 w/ towing package. With the V8, full-size truck, I don't even know I am pulling my boat. You will notice a huge difference in weight distribution (tongue weight) with a full-size truck and you will also have the power necessary for those mountains you mentioned. You might even consider a external tansmission cooling system. Most full-size trucks with a towing package come with these. My vote, hands-down, would be a full-size truck with a V8.

Tacoma with tow package has a transmission cooler too. As well as an oil cooler, larger battery and bigger alternator.

Frisbie your Tacoma (like my mine:D) has a smaller v6 and is smaller in size, we have the 3.4 v6 while the newer Tacomas have a 4.0 v6.

Will we ever hear from 65Bus again???

It's March and he was going to make a decision in February. My guess is that he went with the V8 Colorado. Money was an issue and those are a screaming good deal right now because the company is going out of business.

There's a reason they are going out of business...I'll take quality over price any day!

Pretty surprising vote here. I have a friend that has a Colorado 5 cylinder and loves it for the reasons he bot it. Also has a full size Chevy with a 6.0 uses that tool for what he needs it for. Love my Tacoma but also own a GMc with the Duramax/Allison transmission each truck works great for the reasons I need them. I tow a 19ft Lund Boat boat with my Tacoma works great!!!!

I'd recomend a full size truck for towing a trailer like that. To me a Tacoma is car that doubles as a truck sometimes. If you are getting a daily driver and want to tow occasionally then I think a Tacoma would fit the bill.

Since this zombie thread won't die...

For towing, check out Rv.net, they have many individuals that can help with towing concerns.

I browsed briefly, and there's a guy on RV.net with an '05 Taco V6 who pulls a 26' rec vehicle and says he likes it just fine (I had a pic right before my browser crashed ). Most of the opinions state that it would be very good to have a sway bar due to the short length of the vehicle, though.

I drive a '99 Dodge Ram Diesel 2500 automatic with a 24' 5th wheel and electronic brakes (it has less HP than my Taco, but probably more torque... can't find a good website for specs). I pull and drive like there's nothing back there, but what really concerns me is braking. With that size of brake pads and turning the overdrive off, I still wish I had something like a jake brake.
If you have ever been to Montana, there's a ghost town called Virginia City. there's a 15% grade hill coming in to the place, which dumps you on to a tourist-traveled 25mph road through the center of 'downtown'. From a near dead stop at the top of the hill and being very cautious on my descent, I blew through the town at 35~40mph with the front disc brakes hot enough that you could smell them (no smoke, though). I admit that I could probably have turned up my trailer brakes (my unit isn't auto adjusting), but it's still something to think about.

I will say that Toyota trucks aren't anything shy about hauling stuff around, though. The early '80s 22LR 4cyls were absolute beasts.

I have yet to tow anything with my Taco, but braking is always my top priority.
