If they change the engine or tranny wouldn't new problems come along?

I was thinking that. I thought this motor was the same one from the RX350 Lexus?

I can't remember which lexus its from but yes it is from one of the lexus SUVs.
Which is why when everyone was going on saying I'm worried about the new engine I never worried as its not 'new' just new to the tacoma. Been used for 2 years already in the lexus free of issues.

Do yourself a favor, take the truck you intend to buy for a really long test drive before you commit to the purchase.
Get a feel for it before you sign...

I find it incredibly hard to believe that with very few issues with engine and countless differential howling issues they would be changing the engine and not the diff.

only problem with that is this truck is incredibly different at 1000km or less vs 10 000km.
    Howling starts later.
trans is supposed to learn your driving and gets smoother.

Its best if you could drive one thats already been used for a bit and see if you like it.

the rav4 has it, supposedly it might be brought to the taco and 4runner for 2018 from rumours I've heard.
basically just 3 more cameras, one on each side and front facing, when you activate it you get a birds eye view of the vehicle and what's around.

    Ah, that's cool.

Don't see that making it's way to Tacoma, though. The RAV4 needs such electric goodies to compete because other small SUVs have tons of tech. The Tacomas don't even have power seats... things like that camera system are a long, long, long way away for us.

I agree, but it was mentioned in another thread and it would be something i'd consider trading for or try and retrofit.

There's a jeep version of it that I'm thinking can be retrofitted. it just shows a jeep in the centre of the screen vs a taco but will still show all the same cameras on the seperate screen that comes with it. Saw it at a 4x4 shop here.

I've driven one. Actually, I always get manual trans, but decided on the auto this time. It's the first auto I've ever owned.

The OR model isn't affected by the recall. Yet.
I bought mine late Dec of '16, very happy with my purchase.

OK stop right there... go test drive a manual 3rd gen before purchasing the AUTO... I have the manual and I LOVE driving it, as do all the other manual owners here!

I'd love it with a short throw shifter.

    did you try voice command?
I've found the voice command 'you're such an annoying cunt' works very well.
