This is my 4th Tacoma. Love them! Unfortunately a small percentage will vent their bad experiences but Hell thats with every single manufacturer. So do yourself a favor and skip over those post and enjoy your new ride. Toyota is a quality brand with the best resale. Oh what a feeling!

I love manual, but the wife has to be involved. Also, I'm kind of getting tired of traffic with a manual. 19years of driving manual, and I never thought I'd say that.

I'd wire in a front camera and call it a day. If you really got to have more cameras, they can all be wired into the same front-camera's feed and switched on one at a time.

Problem solved. Get the manual... is sooo much fun to drive even in traffic. As a bonus you're wife will be intimidated and won't drive it much so leaving it mostly to you! You will be making up reasons to go to the mall so you can drive the truck around... we all do it.

see like many I do some of my best thinking while in the shower, and just a ltitle while ago thought mounting one of those dome mirrors like on busses etc somewhere on the front, something maybe suctioned or magnetic so it can be removed when not needed, and have it so I can see the front passenger wheel. as to me wheel placement is the biggest issue while wheeling.

I can see rears with side mirror and dirver side front by sticking my head out the window. Just need that front passenger.
Might be ugly but wtf do I care its only for purpose off road.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. Get it out on the highway for an extended drive. I wish I would have done this.

Op, here is the scoop. The truck has very nice features, rides well, and is great off road (4x4 models). There are some real problem with this truck though. First, there is a problem with the rear end geartrain. We really don't know the cause, but there is a good bit of people with rear end howl. There is legitimately something wrong there.

The transmission has a poorly designed valve body that Toyota has been covering and covering with transmission software patches (bandaids).

I don't know of any other major issues. However, this is a new model, and 8-10 years of time will tell how reliable this model is. You would have to consider the risk. As far as the reliability of the earlier models, the past does not equal the future. We HOPE this model will be as reliable as the previous Tacomas, but again, time will tell. Me personally, I would wait until 2018 hoping some of the bugs are worked out. As far as the 2016 and 2017 trucks out there, be clear, Toyota is not going to fix problematic trucks unless they are forced. They will try to cover up their tracks and move on. Know that. That is big business. All big companies operate this way.

To your point, yes, Toyota cares more about profits then reliability. All manufacturers do. They don't give two craps about the customers. That is big business.

That's my observation. 2018 would be my pick. Good luck op.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
People who aren't happy with (insert truck brand here) for one reason or anther tend want EVERYONE to know. They start a thread about what ever their not happy about (even though there are already six threads stating the same thing), and all the other unhappy owners chime in. So consequently all you hear about are the problems people are having. The other 95% of us are out having fun with the trucks.
Me personally, I have had the truck since mid July, have put over 24,000 on it while Lovingly abusing it on logging road with out any problems. My recommendation is test drive the truck and if you like it, buy it and go have fun with it.

By the way welcome to the club.:cheers:

Same boat, never owned an AT vehicle before this. I asked my wife if she would like it if my new truck had AT- she said yes and that was all she wrote.
A few months later my brother in law came riding his dad's pristine Frontier-MT. His dad developed back problems and couldn't drive it, so I thought I made the right move since I ain't getting any younger.
Love the AT- the engine braking is cool, and my truck really flies when asked.
Good luck and welcome to TW.

2017 sr5 v6 dclb here. Love it. Tranny shifts a little too soon but really not that bad. Dont listen to the whiners here that condemn the truck. Also speculating these trucks wont hit 300k miles is just rediculous. Buy it and if you really want to enjoy it delete your membership here

I agree with you and echo your concerns. However not every truck has a ton of problems but my 3rd gen and many others have had a lot of issues. This is perhaps the most controversial and certainly the most criticized generation of Tacoma to date. Test drive the Hell out of whatever you think you want to buy.

Seems like I've seen two recent posts about folks having engines replaced in 3rd Gens.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2017-tacoma-needs-new-engine-block.485107/

Test drive long term before you buy. Make sure you like the transmission, gearing, and small displacement V6.

If I had to replace my 2nd Gen I'd buy a 4 Runner.

I think before you sign papers, you should do a pretty extensive test drive. Over night if possible.
