I finished installing my new head unit into my 2006 today. I replaced the stock unit with a Sony WX-GT80UI CD Receiver, Double Din, from Cruthchfield. I got the Toyota wiring harness and my choice of install kit. I went with the silver textured unit by Metra. Its not a perfect match, but its pretty good.

It sounds and looks great! My concerns:

There is a tiny gap below the HU where the inner frame of the cover sits.

The HU wiggles a little when I press hard on it.

There was one connection from the stock HU that I didnt re-use. It was the one on the far right, it looked like it had about three wires. I have no idea what its for but things seem to work ok without it? There was no connection on the new HU and no wires on the connector for it.

    Here is a pic:

Its been excellent so far! I took the bezel back off, and glued the loose black trim in place. Hopefully a little less rattling on bumpy roads.

I installed a similar Sony unit (WX-GT90BT) in my 2006 Tacoma Double Cab last summer. Got it from Crutchfield along with the same Metra dash kit. I wasn't very happy with the install because of the flimsy plastic brackets. Mine would rattle like crazy, but I was lazy and didn't do anything about it until a few days ago. What I ended up doing was using the factory metal brackets on my Sony head unit and just placing the little trim ring up against the silver dash kit piece. I used some electrical tape to hold it in place, but I think it might eventually peel off. I didn't use the yellow clips like others have mentioned, but mine feels solid as a rock now. No rattle and it doesn't budge at all when I push on it.

    Does yours still wiggle?

Mine has been in for a while, and unless i am going over pretty rutted roads, its not squeeky. It does wiggle a little bit. The double sides foam tape that I put around the edge of the HU seems to help some, but a better bracket would surely help more!

Do you still have the factory metal brackets?
