    But don't forget to dremel off the powdercoat before mounting antenna.

    also, enjoy barely reaching out behind the truck. Your radiation pattern will be a near straight line out about 2 o'clock of the truck. Ask me how I know.

    The illuminated areas above represent actual intensity and azimuth measurements made at the testing facilities of Hy-Gain Electronics. The antenna used was a full-length 108-inch whip tuned to 27.065 MHz. The roof-top mount is the best position for all-round radiation, the left rear bumper just about the worst - except in its favored direction where the lobe is substantially stronger. When the car is in motion and turning, you can see why there are extreme variations in signal strength.

    Because my radiation pattern is exactly as the documentation above. Left rear bumper or fender is TERRIBLE placement in the US. Since we drive on the right side of the road, you reach out the best away from oncoming traffic, and almost zero behind you. I installed mine this way. I've been contemplating moving it to the front of the bed behind the rear window, but I don't want it beating on the back of the cab.
    When I'm talking to someone on the hwy going the same direction as me and in front of me, I can reach them ok. As soon as I pass them, I lose them in less than half a mile to a mile. It's miserable. And oncoming traffic is even worse.

    Thos radiation patterns don't look right to me. Wouldn't the cab of the vehicle block some of the RF? It seem like the lobes should be going the opposite direction. So if the antenna is on the left bumper, you'd get more coverage to the rear of the car, not to the front.

    From the article;
    'This article in a 1966 issue of Popular Electronics presents a surprising and almost counterintuitive (to those uninitiated in antenna physics) result when measuring the radiation pattern of a CB-type antenna.."

    Metal of the vehicle pulls the pattern..

    I would have thought the worst thing was to block the very base / bottom of the whip as that's like the main key starting point for emitting RF. That's why anytime I see CB whips on people's bumpers right next to a metal tailgate or trunk, I'm like dang, that's gotta be a bad setup.

    Might be a great option to use for flag when needed in certain off-roading areas
