Well, call Nitto, they will be happy to talk to you. They explained to me the difference but it was a year ago so my memory is a little foggy. They basically said they don't do "Ranges" in the conventional sense of the term but rather just add more plys in a different configuration. Which is what I thought was the conventional deign process of different Plys???? I was told the compounds were the same and that Es were just stronger. Which again is what I thought the conventional rating meant. I should just call them back up and ask them again because now I want to know! LOL

Haha let me know if you do call them. I was leaning with the Es for the thicker sidewalls.

    :threadjacked:

Just got off the phone so I want to post while it is fresh.

Edit, this post pertains to the Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, sorry for leaving that one little important detail out originally.

From the rep on the phone:

"The tires are listed as 10 Ply and 6 Ply but that is a rating comparison only to older Bias Ply tires that did/do have that many strands of wire. If you cut one of these open you will find the same amount of strands of wire, it is just laid differently. That's why they weigh the same yet can be Load Index Rated differently."

"The E & C both have the same tread pattern, and rubber compound, and the sidewalls are both the same 2 ply rating".

So what I got outta this is that some engineer figured out how to use the same amount of wire, laid out in a different pattern, that makes one tire capable of holding 3195 lbs and the other only hold 2470 lbs. I'm having a hard time believing they do not feel different in the seat of our pants. But, I can tell you this, I still say that my ride is not uncomfortable.

He also went on to tell me that the Ridge Grappler performance reports from consumers are comparable to the Terra Grappler, in all areas. I kinda find that hard to believe a little too because of the increase in the amount of sipes on the Terra Grappler. I don't have any evidence though. This is my first set of Nitto's. I do like them.

The reason I went with nittos was because my dad ran the Terra grapplers on his truck. They always seemed like good tires. I never cared to pay attention how the tires performed noise and comfort-wise, but they lasted a long time and looked sweet. I ended up ordering some e's.
