I was under the impression that the Joying unit only mirrored the phone. No?

No it has its own apps. For data you need hotspot enabled on your phone.

I've been getting my headunit and backup camera installed this weekend... the headunit is installed and otherwise working just fine (I'll post pictures later tonight).

BUT ... is there some special screen it has to be in to detect the backup camera?
I've the camera plugged in at both ends ... I can measure approx 10V off of the reverse-tail-light. And have the good continuity in the cable ... and the headunit isn't detecting that a camera is attached. At least I can't find a setting that allows me to turn it on or view video from it.
    Any ideas?

    *Edit for clarity plus stuff*

Ok. So here's a thing... when I put it in reverse, my digital multi-meter enters a protect mode when measuring the power-in side of the plug ... weirdness.

    Sorry, no.
But, the plugs should only fit one way ... right?

which backup camera do you have?
do you happen to have taken a voltage reading for the power side of the camera? I'm running in to some issues on mine...

I just upgraded to the 2gb version from the 1gb. The 1 gb was incredibly slow to boot and laggy.
The 2gb version is incredibly fast, and boots in seconds.
It was a challenge to get everything hooked up on the original install, but everything works including steering wheel controls and BU camera.
found out the backup camera is 6VDC instead of 12, So I had to wire in a power source for that (OEM HU provides 6VDC)

The BU camera on mine is 6VDC, you can see that on the wiring diagram if you can find one....

    edit: http://www.beatsonicusa.com/blog/?p=13 there's an adapter

Mine isn't an OEM camera. I'm driving a 2000 Pre-Runner. They weren't an option at the time.

OP, did you need to install any kind of adapter, to use your OEM camera with this head unit?

one of the best features of these Android radios is the ability to put KODI on it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watching live sports or passenger watching a movie on long trips.
if you don't know what KODI is, Google it please!

I'll be getting one of these pretty soon hopefully. I've already got an older Alpine single DIN head unit installed with an amp and a 10" Punch sub behind the passenger rear seat. Also replaced all of the stock component speakers. I've been eyeing one of these up for over a year, the old Alpine is just getting...old.

Couple questions, does the unit have sub out components and is the remote on wire marked on the harness?

My 08 Taco double cab doesn't have the bells and whistles, so I'm looking to add at least a backup camera.

I'm sure you could figure it out if you get the pin out for the OEM and for the Joyong unit. Should be pretty simple I'd think.

Thank you all for posting. Just purchased a 2010 TRD Off Road, and noticed that the AUX is a little janky. It keeps cutting out, and it is pretty annoying. I looked into adding one of those GTA blu tooth adaptors, but once I saw this, I wondered why throw that money away on an old, and ugly HU. Might as well upgrade.

I'm trying to tie together the thread.
    1. Does it work with an iPhone?
    2. Can I tie in my stock reverse cam?
    3. Does the blu tooth work ok? I don't need stellar voice quality?
    4. How is the audio quality of the blu tooth?
    5. Is trim fit ok?
    6. Are you generally happy with it?

I plan on bringing it to an audio guy for the install. Is it generally well known how to do everything you guys have done? I don't want to send him to page 3 of a Tacoma World thread to find out how to tie in the steering wheel controls. Thanks in advance for any help. This will be my first mod for sure.

    I love this truck btw.

It should work with any standard Bluetooth device. I use a Samsung Android device and it works just fine. The included mic (your guy will need to mount it) works pretty well. I haven't had any complaints. Audio over bluetooth seems to work, too (although I have an ipod classic hooked up via USB and listen to that and the radio mostly). I have a 2000 and am using an aftermarket backup camera (or will once I figure out what's going on with a voltage leak/ low voltage on my taillight keeping it from turning on) but any standard backup camera should work just fine.
I don't know about the trim for your model but on the 2000, I had to sand the plastic on the truck's console down for it to fit.
The only complaints I have so far is that the contact list won't import and the Android mirroring is kinda a pain to start up.
If anyone has suggestions for that I'm all ears.

I've got the 10.1" double din version (JY-UL134N2) inbound shortly. It's replacing an older kenwood ddx-470.

I'm sure it'll be a fun time in fitting.. i'm not adverse to experimentation.
