Ok, so this wasn't so difficult. 10.1" Joying Android head unit installed. Provided steering wheel remote does not work, not really worth messing with further.

Dash cam, GPS, rear view camera all working fine. Sound quality and amplification very decent. After a few user-error hiccups over getting the surround keys functional, I also got it updated from Android 5.0.1 to 6.0.1 latest release firmware.

I took photos for someone who asked about flush-mount. It is not. I reused my Metra kit that held the former Kenwood in place. As such, the Joying unit is drilled for bracketry that there is a wide range of positioning that you can achieve. The very front face of the box, upon which the screen clips in place, is also adjustable for angle (downwards from default position) by 8 degrees.

The screen stands out, and off of the Joying double-din box, by about 1/2". I have the Joying box itself, protruding outside of the dashboard surface by another 1/3", give or take - keeping in mind that there does need to be stand-off spacing, because of the curvature of the dash.

A few night-time shots of my centre-console setup. I have a quick-detach mounting off the 1" Ram mounts that hold a 7" Nexus tablet, when Dash Command ODB2 app is desired, or an additional screen for whatever else. Dash Command was already bought and paid for with Tacoma 2.7L specific settings, so i'm not putting the ODB2 App functionality onto the Joying for now.

why doesn't a company offer a better 10" display solution like they do for other vehicles? it can't be that hard to make a better piece of plastic to replace the trim like they do for the corolla?

For the second gen, the basic dash was designed in 2005. It's constrained by width of dash, height of dash, and what lays to the left and right of the center section in terms of structural supports and environmental ducting.

Small format screens in the 6" range were just becoming a thing in the aftermarket, when the dash was designed.

While it would be nice to have the built in appearance of OEM factory, I can reconcile that i am driving a dated-design truck, that was originally equipped with a radio stack with a single-line character LCD display.

I am well used to the screen being outside of the dash. If it's an issue to that point - getting one of the 7" DIN surround format Joying's would work .. just have to have better short-range vision than mine.

I just installed my joying unit in my 06 with JBL. I got the jy-tm145n2. Came with the 6.0 firmware and 2 iso harnesses. My truck is a JBL truck so I already had the tato harness for my previous Alpine head unit making the install pretty easy. 4 wires to hook up. Red, black, yellow and orange/white stripe. Rca's for the fr/fl and rr/lr. Still need to mess with the steering wheel controls. I've got the pac-swc box from the Alpine unit also.

The fit is terrible with the scosche kit, going to try the metra. Sound is good through the radio and Bluetooth. Still need to install the microphone.

I've been trying to load it for a week now. Since I received mine, I haven't had any luck.

I have an older joying HU (2016 model) in my Tacoma. I sent Joying an email asking about a firmware update. I received this as a response:
