My quick 2 cents. Been running a custom tune by @PapaRee for quite a while now. Checked out the forums lastnight and saw he came up with something new. Flashed it this morning and its...its better than what he made me before. Once I get some more mileage on the tune with towing and mountain passes I'll send out a bigger report including vehicle specifics but, I've been around since the early OvTunes and my 2017 TRDPro Auto trans has never felt like this before. Like I said, I'll get in a full report after I throw it threw its paces but for the little time I have on it I'm very impressed. (Mind you as most of you know, all of our trucks behave differently to these tunes, doesn't matter if you have a winch, cb, or a tonneau cover, they all react differently. Mine likes the KD 4.0)(Please excuse any typos, just got a new kegerator!)

Depends. You can buy vftuner, and run one of the user tunes that are shared for free, or buy one of the user tunes for whatever they are charging, or you can buy the ovtune tunepack.

I have been using OV/VF since March '19. Have been tweaking on my own version since VF came out and prior to that had tried every 87 octane/reg version of 1.05, 1.05.1 and 2.0. The stumble start 1.05.1 was the only OV created tune I really liked. Better power plus good mileage. Just couldn't live with the stumble. My versions all got better and better running and shifting with each new version, but at the price of some mileage. Then I tried KDMax-L from Paparee. This is a fantastic tune! He's really got the tune dialed in with noticeable lower rpm torque gains, nice shifting, and really good mileage as an added bonus. Well worth a try.

I have been running the Kruiser 4.0 and it has been great.:thumbsup: Looking at getting the upgrade but before I do I have one question. What is the advantage of gear lock. I understand what it does, but do I need it. I tow regularly during camping season and only do fire roads for off roading. Thanks for the assistance.

I use gear lock quite a bit for rolling hills. The truck will want to downshift, but the truck doesn't know we'll be hitting a downhill in less than a quarter mile. I tend to also use gear lock when pulling a long hill so the truck doesn't try to upshift when I slow down a mile or two, or hit a plateau. It's one of those things you're just gonna have to answer yourself.

    Update---KDMAX Version 6.0

We have found a way with new torque maps to make the shifting even smoother.
So I am working on new Tune Packs. If you have already received a Tune Pack and want to upgrade to the 6.0 (no charge),
Please send me a message on the PM that I sent you tunes on and I will respond with an updated 6.0 tune pack.

You’ll need to update to vF, and with the new version you will get credits for your ECU and VIN as a previous customer, but if you want a tune pack you’ll have to buy a new one from OV if you want 2.0 or @PapaRee if you want his tune.

if you had the older vF you could just get KDM5.0 and flash it with the flash utility without updating or getting new credits. That software is not available any longer unless a user saved the install zip, which someone might have.

I remember OVTune 1.04 installed with that annoying little dongle process. It was a big improvement over stock, especially with the 4.88s. When OVTune 2.0 rolled around I was sure this was it, the top tune for my truck, and I was content to run with that indefinitely.

On a whim I decided to try out custom tunes by a couple different TW members.

    Soooo glad I did.

The KDMax is the proverbial shit, as tunes go. The Kali Kruiser to Kruiser to KDMax evolution has been a fun ride, literally and figuratively.
Each version of the tune had me saying, "It can't get better than this." Then it got better. And then better again, and again, etc...

If for some weird reason I was forced to go back and permanently run with Kruiser 4.0, I really wouldn't have a big problem with it. Even that was noticeably improved over OVTune 2.0 final.

Now at the KDMax 5.0 I do not hesitate to say, "It cannot get better than this."
