Hey all, just joined. Not officially a Tacoma owner just yet, but have been thinking about purchasing this 2009 4x4 Regular Cab with 103k miles, 5-Spd Manual. Guy has it listed for $10,900. Should I bite? Pictures posted below.

if so, what should my first mods be? (The cheaper the better lol). Super excited to own a Tacoma!

How's the frame? Is it in the salt belt? Welcome to the forum!

He is going to send me more pictures today, but he said there is no rust and that Toyota recalled and powder coated the frame last year. I'm in Pennsylvania, so it does get pretty cold. Thanks!

I doubt they powdercoated anything. That would mean removing it from the truck. They may have sprayed it with something, be leery until you see it for yourself!!!

So here is my message to him, and his response. Hopefully he will be sending some more pictures my way soon. Thoughts?

We believed you that he said it, we just can't believe that he said it. Toyota doesn't powdercoat frames, he's just trying to sell it.

You need to see it in person and get under it. Check the frame really really good.

@six5crèéd knows what he's talking about*, @Tac0Tuezday. Get a good look before you get your hopes up.

Fingers crossed for you, though! :fingerscrossed:

*If it's not green, it's not powder coated.**

I'm not sure what the market is like in your area but the price seems a bit high but it's worth the drive to take a look, the worst case you burn a few hours and some gas money but better than getting stuck with a lemon. I'd see if he'd be willing to meet halfway at least.

Anyway, everyone coved the main point with these trucks, check. for. rust. Other than that the 2.7L really has no issues but check the engine bay for leaks, make sure 4H & 4L engage, and shift through all the gears. If you have never owned a 4 cylinder Tacoma much less a regular cab you'll have to get used to the lack of space & you definitely won't win any races.

IF you end up getting the truck I'd recommend the short shifter kit from URD if makes a huge difference and isn't crazy expensive.

So I did a little research and it seems like 2nd Gen Taco's were recalled for frame rust and suspension and the seller mentions both new springs and "powder coating" frame, but maybe he is referring to a CMC coating? Anyways I am planning on meeting up Saturday. Definitely will be inspecting everything you all suggested. Thanks again!

Pulled the plug and bought the truck! Everything was in great shape, super happy with the purchase. Any ideas what I should do next? (Mods)

Awesome glad you’re happy with it! I’m not sure if you saw my earlier post but definitely recommend the short shifter kit from URD, big difference otherwise maybe some all terrain tires. I think the other mods really depend on your long term goals with the truck but congrats again!
