I have gotten gussets welded to the L brackets to provide additional strength. With this done, I feel more confident leaving the winch tray off unless I decide to add a winch in the future and reduce the weight hanging off the front end.

 

Any interference with tss?

Has anyone had an impact to the bumper? Wondering how it holds up. I like the look and install ease so this is on my list. I have no intentions of using a winch so collisions are my only real concern

 

I have wondered the same thing, the weakest point is where the bumper connects to the L brackets. It comes with four bolts that look to be ungraded. I replaced them with Grade 8 bolts and also had gussets welded in the L brackets to give it more strength. While not exactly happy with the mounting system, with the modifications, I feel that it is probably as good, if not better, than the stock bumper at speeds greater than 5mph. At lower speeds the stock bumper has the plastic crumble zone, which would absorb the impact without any type of frame damage and be easily replaced. With the DV8, it would probably fail at the connecting bolts, although I don't know how much force would be required to sheer the bolts off. For the price, with the mods I made, I feel okay with it as a bumper replacement. What was attractive to me was the low price and ability to take the truck back to stock easily if I wanted to, but if I was doing it again, I would probably just bite the bullet and go with a full bumper.

Late to this party, which light bars are you guys using? I’ve tried 4 and just wont fit the brackets. I like the bumper, install took a bit with crappy DV8 online manual and missing bolts for mounting (1) and coil displacement (2). Metrics 10/12/14/19mm used, I took pics of the process if you got Qs. Removing front end of truck was worse part, many broken tabs (I don’t do well with frustrating tasks).

Wow..can't believe its been over a year..thankfully it didn't take me that long to figure it out .. I have noticed some running rust and some of the coating is coming off. I need to remove it and take it to have the lightbar stand removed, then blast and repaint the bumper.

 

Those are the brackets to move the power steering cooler that is in front of the main lab.

 

I purchased the DV8 Off Road 20” LED light bar from Jegs, I paid about $70 for it, it fits tight, but does fit. The one thing I have found is that because of the way that the bracket is set up with a notch instead of a mounting hole, when off roading it has come loose. The DV8 people are very responsive with any missing hardware or issues in shipping. My shipping package was damaged on arrival and the hardware had fallen out. I called them via phone and they not only sent out replacement hardware, but also sent a can of touch up paint and also gave me a $50 refund, which made my cost for the bumper delivered to my home $338. I did weld gussets on the brackets for additional strength, and I would probably replace it with a full bumper if I had plans to install a winch, but overall I am satisfied with the purchase.

 

The ebay seller finally had these in stock again after 3 months of waiting so I just got mine in, $368 delivered. I'm excited to get it installed!

So the bolt replacement to better hardware that is galvanized is definitely a good idea. My bolts are all rusted through from just offroading as the truck usually sits. Truck currently sits in the shop for the fuel pump recall and broken window but will take some updated pics next week showing the rust spots bleeding from the triangle pieces and impacts that bumper had gotten from wheeling. Drilled and tapped bolts for the front plate that is covering the winch opening for now.

 

Yes, I drilled weep holes on the back side of the bumper to drain where the light bar arms attach to the bumper. I also sprayed paint into the opening as the powder coat does not penetrate the arms. So far so good, I haven't seen any rust weeping out of the front of the bumper.

 

I still need to drill the holes but had added fluid film to it.
