Hello all. Recently purchased a 2021 4x4 OR.

I have put a couple thousand miles on it so far. I'm coming from a twenty year old 4Runner, so the ride difference is night and day. Cabin comfort, noise, etc is much better. I considered getting another 4Runner but wanted to try out the Tacoma. I do have one gripe and it is hard to overlook, believe me I have tried. The shifting and throttle response. Maybe I should have done more research on these before buying but i didn't think it would be this bad. I have spent a lot of time in "S" mode just to bypass the shifting points. It works but I don't want to do this long term. I also use ETC some, and it does make a difference, but don't want to continue to use it. I am reading a lot about the OTT and think having it done may be the best option. Will the tune make this truck a more enjoyable daily driver? Any advice on which tune to get?

Where I am seeing the worst of the hesitation is driving up and down neighborhood streets and of course freeway driving when slowing down for traffic and then trying to accelerate again. It feels like I'm pulling a 10,000lb trailer.

Look forward to learning more. Thanks for any advice.

When I had my 17 tuned (KDmax), it made a dramatic difference. The tune certainly made the truck more enjoyable to drive. The tune changed the shift points and the throttle response.

If I were to get a tune today, it would be the OTT. OTT is CARB certified and they appear to have very good customer support. Again, I don't have the OTT, but that would be my choice if I did it today.

I don't know where you are located, but you could post in your regional section and see if anyone near you has the OTT on their truck and ask them about it and they may be open to letting you test drive theirs.

If you decide OTT, talk to your tuner about your needs. They are very good at helping to make the tune what you want/need for your truck.
