I’m a new member to the forum.
I have limited knowledge of what I’d like to do to my brand new 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road so hoping to get some feedback from other members with more experience/knowledge.
I’m looking for some additional ground clearance. Not a lot, say a few inches. I’m thinking of swapping out the existing 265/70R16 tires/wheels for 265/70R17. I really don’t want/need E rated larger more aggressive tires (say 285s) as my off roading is a small percentage of my driving.
Also thinking of installing a 2”/1” leveling kit, which should give me a few inches of additional clearance as well as eliminate the back/front rake of the truck.
I realize I don’t need to lift the truck to go from 16” to 17” wheels but again, I’m wanting a little lift so the wheel swap should give me an additional 1/2” of clearance.
My concern and question to you all is what the truck’s profile will look like without larger tires on the 17’ wheels combined with the 2”/1” level. ??
My thoughts are that since the leveling kit is a very small lift the (not giant) wheels/tires will look good. Also, I have a Leer 180 topper on order with matching color.
What do you think? Your thoughts and comments are really appreciated!

Ground clearance is determined by tire diameter.
16” rim can be fitted with the same overall diameter as a 17” rim. Resulting in the same increase in ground clearance.
The 16 provide more cushion off road than the 17”. 17” have more choices in tires sizes. A lift doesn’t increase your ground clearance, however it should help with approach, break over and departure angles.
Keep reading before you decide what to do.
