    Hello,

Long time fan of Taco's I could just never afford one in the past. I am currently looking at 2000 2.7l 4cyl, with 151k for $5500. For some reason these trucks are crazy expensive in my area (Madison,WI) and I want to know what you think. I would not be opposed to stepping up in the price category, but it seems like anything in the $8-12k has way over 200k miles. Now I know these trucks last forever, but that is just too many miles for me to justify $12k. So here is a link to the one I am looking at, I know rust on the frame is the killer, and you cannot see it that well but what is the overall consensus ? What else should I be looking for? Also the first gen is known for having a long life span but do we really know if the newer gens will last as long?

    Thanks everyone!

No one should make an evaluation on frame rust based on photos alone. It meeds a physical inspection by someone who know what they are looking for.

The key to any high mileage vehicle purchace is evidence of how it was treated during its life. And a prepurchase indpection by an independant mechanic, including a compression test and a computer scan.

If the 2000 fitd your needs, it would certainly be worth a lookover at at that price. At least they haven't bothered to try and make the engine bay look new eith a bunch of spay on junk.

I just paid $5000 for a v6 xcab with 255k miles. Cheap for my area and no issues with rust here in Tx

I live near you (NE WI) and can tell you the conditions of frames up here are horrible. Based on the pics of the first gen you posted, that frame *may* have been replaced a few years ago. Typically our frames are much worse than that one. Punch the VIN into the Toyota Owner's website and see if there's any info.

I purchased my truck a few years ago knowing it qualified for a replacement frame, even though the dealership I bought it from didn't know it.

If the frame is in respectable shape, that's a decent price for a 1st gen 4cyl up here.
