Hi All, goosedawg here, and I'm a new member doing his research and trying to understand the best way forward in finding a new or old Tacoma (ideally by the summer)!

For new ... find a dealer who will put you on their list, with or without a deposit (with deposit more likely). Make friendly with salesfolk from several dealers who will call you the minute a new one is refused by the first bidder so you can drop everything and fly in.

Avoid dealers who "adjust" prices. Examples:
Charge $5000 more just for grins on models up through OR, then $10000 more for Pro
Order Tacomas with the ridiculous options that are heavy on profit for them
Install lift kits on base-SR ($7000) but do not add electronic rear lockers or better shocks

Avoid dealers who insist your deposit is non-refundable, and DO NOT trust those who say "ignore the fine print on that deposit form ... it really is refundable!".

For used ... you can trust "Toyota Certified" or not.
