    Hi everybody,

New member on TW. Bought a new to me 2016 SR5 4x4 DCLB last month. Second Taco (first was a 1996 Extra Cab SR5 4x4). Sold the old one 9 years ago after kids came along and needed more room. Glad to be back in a Tacoma.

I've done several minor mods so far on the truck. Installed Husky floor mats and a rubber bed liner to keep all of my stuff from sliding around. Upgraded interior lights and backup lights to LEDs. Added a tray to center console and organizer to glove box.

The most difficult thing so far was wiring in led lights under the bed accessory rails. Powered it off a new fuse panel in the cab. I didn't want to forget to turn the lights off and run down the battery, so I installed a programmable solid-state timer and set it to 15 minutes. I do a lot of work at night in remote locations where I use my truck bed as a work station, so the bed lights are a great addition and the timer adds peace of mind. The truck came with a soft roll-up tonneau installed, so that could make it easier to not realize I left the bed lights on.

Also, since I need to secure the bed and don't want to forget to lock it, I installed the Pop-n-lock powered lock so my bed locks and unlocks with the key fob or switches in the cab.

Also removed the front air dam for looks and so I don't tear it up off-road. Still running stock street tires, and they have lots of life left, so I'm hesitant to swap them out any time soon, but the truck desperately needs larger tires with some real off-road abilities. I'm not a hard-core offroader by any means, but I'm regularly in areas for my job where 4wd is an absolute necessity, so these tires will likely have to be replaced by next spring when I'll be back in off-road situations more often.

Also forgot to mention I installed the trailer brake controller I had in my last truck (Dodge Ram 1500).

In what area of TN are you located. I'm in Maury county. We do a couple local and semi local (2-3 hours away) rides here in the state a few times a year. Hit me up if you're interested in going with us. We're fairly stock suspension wise and are able to navigate these places easy enough. Thanks and welcome to TW.

I'm in Cookeville, 1 hour east of Nashville. Definitely not doing any rides until I swap tires, but thanks for the invite!

Welcome from SC! You might be surprised what these trucks can do with stock tires and suspension, but of course it's also fun to spend the money and do the mods. ;)

My 1996 xtra cab never got stuck with it's stock tire size (30x10.5) and stock suspension. But this 3rd gen is quite a bit larger and heavier than my 1st gen was, so better grip in mud surely won't hurt! I likely won't upgrade the suspension, just step up to a 31.5" tire probably. But if I ever decide to add on aftermarket bumpers then I'll likely need to do something to account for that added weight.
