Hello, well I finally broke down and bought a new truck, a basic 09, 4x4, double cab.

Let me tell you this is my first new vehicle purchase since I bought my 1986 toyota truck new in June of 86(in case your are trying to guess my age, I think I was 6 at the time:)). My 86 now has 328,000 miles on it and is still running strong. The big differences in the old and new as many can guess was the price and what toyota calls base model. When I bought my base line 86 it came with a heater, thats it! no mats, radio, rear bumper, right side mirror, no AC, power steering, brakes, power windows, locks etc. So when they showed me the baseline tacoma I was quite impressed. I did move up to the 4 wheel drive and double cab and sure love the extra space!

Anyways I hope to gain some knowledge here from everyone that's willing to share as I will share all I can with parts and products I try on my Tacoma.

Welcome. I've never seen a car or truck without a passenger side mirror.

    Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Yes believe it or not, the base line trucks back then did not have that mirror. If I remember correctly I think I paid around $5,500 for the truck + 200.00 for a bumper and I drove it off the lot, of course with no radio it was not really exciting except for it ran really good!

Here's a picture of the new truck, I'm going to have to scan pictures to post ones for the old one.

I'm really enjoying the new truck, though my wife thinks I'm crazy that I don't want to get rid of the old one

Nice, White a nice color for these trucks. Look at that you have a 2 side view mirrors haha.

That's funny, +$200 bumper. I guess I'm too young to remember cars that didn't come with that stuff.

    I sure feel I have!

The exteriors hold up well here in SW, though the interiors don't do nearly as well!

I still love my 86! I have so many fond memories of road trips and camping, etc. Thinking about it when I met my wife in 87, guess what I was driving! So I've had my old truck longer than her!

I never thought I would enjoy a new truck as much as I do this new tacoma, it handles great and is very comfortable and the mileage is better than I had expected, I'm averaging between 21 and 23 MPG.

Thanks again for all the welcomes!
