My name is Alberto, have a 2015 tacoma prerunner all stock and had some troubles last weekend towing a tent trailer. Dealer has no answers, so I'm trying somewhere else. Hopefully someone here have some answers for me.

yes, questions. I was going to look on treads to see if someone had same problem as me .
I was traveling last weekend towing a pop up tent trailer, only 1200 lbs. when on a slight incline started to downshift, i can see the rpms go over 3000, so I thought well let got the gas and let it catch up. Farther down the highway I encounter a down grade 6%, and instead of coasting I was bearly going 65mph, running 2500 rpms and if i was to let go the gas it would slow down, it would happen on and off throughout my entire 5 day trip. Back home, I took it in for oil change and service explain the problem to dealer, and afterwards service person said no codes came up on the computer and that shop foreman said he's heard of other people having the same issues, but no solution, except the advice to shift from drive to 4th gear. I wonder if really anybody else has had the same problem and maybe a solution.

So, towing a trailer, slight up hill climb, transmission shifts down and engine goes to 3000 RPM? This is normal in my opinion...you letting off gas to lower RPM is... going to slow you down.

Not certain about the down grade speed. My Tacoma has engine assist braking in that, going down a hill if I tap the brake, the transmission down shifts to help brake the rig.

Others with bigger Tacoma brains will chime in

I know about the break assist, when you apply the brake it takes power away from transmission to help slow down.
I know that when driving uphill it might downshift to keep up with speed, so by letting go the gas I was trying to slow down, exactly to allow it to match speed with gear.I
I have towed this trailer with this same truck over mountains on at least two different road trips and never had this issue, even on this trip, on my way home, at some point I was driving up a grade, possibly a 6%, driving at 65 mph and 2100 rpm without any downshifting and the same for another down grade y was coasting, without pressing on gas pedal. so it was not s constant problem, but very annoying.
