I don't have a Tacoma yet. I have an F250 I use for work, a Jeep Rubicon, and a Honda Accord. My wife and I both decided we wanted a truck, I wanted an F-150, she wanted a Tacoma. Because I already have a heavy duty truck, and given Toyota Tacomas history of reliability I was easily persuaded. We live in south Louisiana, we do spend time off-road but most of our driving is on Road, though the roads are not in great condition in some areas we travel. My question is this, my wife wants a TRD sport 4x4 I want a TRD off-road 4x4, which would be the better truck for us? We are waiting for the 2020 probably going to buy in November. Thanks for any advice. Should have added that nearly every weekend we go in places a car can't go. The reason for giving up the car.

Honestly, if you don’t know, I don’t think a bunch of strangers who aren’t familiar with your situation will.

What @Dryfly24 Said the differences in the two are suspension and atrac switch not sure either would matter to an on road mainly truck. others may chime in with differing opinions .

The Off-road has a locking diff and the Sport does not. Other than that they're basically the same truck. I have a Sport and I enjoy it. I haven't been in a situation where I'd need a locking diff and when I wheel off road, it usually with a group so someone can pull me out if I get stuck. Good luck

    Cheers.

There isn’t that much difference, yes heresy. If you really want a locker, an airlocker can be retrofitted into a Sport. If you really need the airscoop, it can be retrofitted on to an offroad. However, if you really need the wife happy get the Sport. Suspension, wheels and tires can be improved on both the Sport and Offroad.

You need to test drive both of them and you decide which is better for you. I have a sport and love it, however, I did test drive both and settled on a sport model, much better ride.

Sport is, theoretically, better set up for highway driving than the off-road. The offroad is very bouncy, lots of nose dive on braking. Can’t speak for the sport, but — drive both of them, see what you think

And i offroad a lot and have only used my locker once - partly because it’s so finicky to engage, and mostly because the a-trac works very well

The off road is the better bang for the buck and you can always throw on the hood scoop to make her happy

^better bang for the buck, if he actually off-roads it heavily. Rare day when one needs a locked

My OR doesn’t do any of that. The only difference I feel between it and my buddy’s Sport is that my trans doesn’t surge on the highway.

The Sport has a slightly more taut suspension and 17" wheels/tires. Handles a little better on the road. I can say that with 1st hand experience

I have the Sport and really like it, but I have read other posts saying the OR has a better ride.

I'd choose simply from exterior appearance if you don't off-road.

Why can the car not go there? Simple matter of ground clearance? Or do you really need the 4WD?

Keeping the Jeep? If so, why is the off-road capability of the truck part of the discussion? Just keep using the Jeep for the off-roading and the truck for everything else.

I’d rather have a locker that I don’t use then be touching up paint chips on the front bumper and fender flares.

    Apparently the Sport.

Actually this is the right answer.

And that needs to be an extensive test ride under conditions/locations you normally travel.
