None as of yet, Looking to put OEM flaps and Smittybilt A1M2 running boards, may have to upgrade rear speakers after purchase found that when faded to rear the speakers are basically non-existing, went to dealer check 3 different trucks SAME opened a case with Toyota Corporate I suggest you do the same may get a recall if enough people complain because the rear speakers are a joke and they advertise no matter what model 6 speaker audio system or more (8)..
    Hey all,
New member and new truck owner here, back in the day I was a FJ40 owner of 5 different trucks did V8 conversions, body & suspensions lifts, power steering conversions etc. You could also pickup a cruiser for a grand or so back then , those days are gone!

I spent about 2 months trying to buy a used Tacoma (2017 & Up ) here in Florida and it was a total disaster, sellers lying about rebuilt or salvage titles (till the last minute of course) Dealers having me drive 2 hours to purchase only to find out the truck was sold 3 days ago ( Thanks Mullinax Ford- Randy McDonald YOU SUCK!) and then bursting in excitement on a deposit on a 2017 SR5 Crew Cab long bed only to have the guy call me next day to say he can't sell the truck, I was pissed to say the least and ultimately started looking at new.

My luck changed when I received a really good quote from Courtesy Toyota in Tampa on a truck being delivered 14 days out, as you know once you show up on any lot they are going to haunt you till no end, well in this case Autonation Pinellas Park was doing just that and when I informed them I have no more time to F* - Screw around and I got a great quote from another dealer it was on!, first guy from there said he would beat it and add lifetime power train warranty ( that can be a blessing and a curse), then another salesman from the same dealership says he will beat his quote a good deal was at hand. Well when it was all said and done both salesman from Autonation overlooked that it was a long bed and could not find another one unless I wanted to wait 94 days out and you guessed it I DIDN'T!, then the sales manager shows up on the scene and they have their private little pow pow. I asked him about an additional discount due to unable to match the vehicle and the long bed option should be worth a few hundred bucks, his reply was he couldn't do it due to incentives will change by time the truck is delivered and he cannot go lower than what they are already at. uh huh!

So after me picking up my check book and ready to head over to Courtesy, they devised a plan (before I hit the door, salesman theatrics) and ask me to take a drive in this TRD Off Road, I told them too much extra money and I was looking for those options I'd rather have the long bed, C'mon just take a drive they said. Well as soon as I sat in it I could feel the seats were of higher quality than what I had been testing, this height just a tad higher and it had that new truck smell, I was getting sucked in , while driving Mike the salesman said we will give you the same quote I gave you and cut the TRD off road upgrade in half, we sat down looked at the numbers and it was a done deal! Drove it home that day and liking it until the next day I was going through the back seat look at the storage available and realized the rear speakers were not working. I went up front turned up the volume to about 35 and still couldn't really hear anything back there, hit the fader completely to rear and it sounded like someone talking into a paper cup, I literally had to push the volume to 50 (Max) to hear anything out the rears and the quality was / is absolutely terrible.

I took it to service, left it for the day, end result they check it all all , reset the audio system and ultimately went out on the lot to listen to like trucks and they were all the same, SAD!

The service advisor explained to me upon pickup that is how they are. I was not happy with the explanation and next day went around the lot myself and listened in the same fashion to base models, other TRDs (not with JBL option of course) and YES they all sucked.

I opened a case with Toyota Corporate which thus far nothing has come out of it but I am hoping enough owners realize this and also complain to Toyota Corporate ( 800-331-4331 ) and a possible recall may come about, in the meantime I may be looking for some speaker upgrades for the back but kind of ticked that I need to even be looking on a brand new truck that boast "6 - Speakers" even though 2 of them do nothing.. There's my intro and rant !

I'd love to hear if anyone has had the same experience and if anything has been done.

Welcome to TW...Yes the Tacoma speakers SUCK ASS!!! You just as well replace all of the speakers. I replaced mine with Kickers and a Kicker amp...Problem solved!! I’m not sure about the quality of the head units in the newer models but I replaced that too, but my truck is a 14.

Welcome to TW and congrats on the new Tacoma! Yes, poor quality speakers is a known issue in the Tacoma. Depending on your budget, there is a great speaker mod that will cost you around $250. Search in the audio/video link on left side of the TW home page. I completed the install last night and, with upgraded speakers, the system sounds much much better. Of course, you can always spend more but for the money, it's an amazing mod.
