    good morning,
So I recently purchased a 2018 tacoma sr brand new. I upgraded the air intake to the cold hps airtake. Everything was fine, but as I started up my car I noticed the CEL, occasionally the trac light will come on and off and my cruise control won’t even work/engage. Should I just put back the stock air intake? Is it cause engine damage? I’m going on a 3hr road trip north tomorrow and I really don’t want to damage my tacoma. I also don’t have a code reader on hand either

You sure you didn’t miss a connection? Disconnect your battery and put it back to stock, reconnect battery, see if that helped. Auto zone or similar auto part stores usually lend out code readers.

There’s usually very little to NO benefit when it comes to installing an aftermarkt intake on almost everything. There are certain vehicles which react well I will not deny that but the majority don’t benefit much and some even get worse. I never understood why that’s one of the first mods EVERYONE wants to do. Need to learn to trust the engineers when it comes to then designing an intake to maximize cold air entering your engine.
    /mini rant over

As @trackdaybro said you most likely missed a connection somewhere. For it to affect your cruise and your Traction control it has to be an electrical issue. If the intake itself was the problem you might just get a rough idle or surges and possibly a code (which you said you have) even possibly acceleration issues.

I’d just revert back to stock, what were you trying to accomplish by “upgrading” from the stock intake?

The stock intake draws air from outside the engine bay entirely. How does drawing air from inside the engine bay make it colder?

I don't thing and intake will cause a problem. Unless you missed a connection like mentioned above. Or maybe you forgot to tighten one of the hoses letting some air in and making it run a little leaner :notsure:

Put it back to stock. Maybe a CAI would do something for a high horsepower sports car like my ZL1 which people have installed a Roto-Fab and has proven to increase around 26 HP.

    I agree with the gang,
stock equals no problems. I know you
want more performance, but these trucks are
    designed for on/off road.

    Welcome to TW

Lots of folks have tried lots of modifications,
They have experience and you can learn from mistakes they made and save some bucks.
