What would you do first, complete suspension or all new updated engine and components?

Appreciate the welcome and more important your wealth of knowledge about Tacomas.

I just bought a 1999 Tacoma 4x4 TRD V6. 400k miles, and wait for it.... zero rust. The downside is it has sat for years under a tree here in the PNW and a lot is corroded. She runs strong, the tranny is good and with some help, this PROJECT will be looking awesome!

400k miles? Nice. Does it seem healthy?

Seems healthy. Have driven a few hours. Main issue, running wise, is a high idle. But, before I go pulling the TB, I have to replace the air box. Nicely cracked beyond repair.

That could sure be the problem. Especially if it's getting air downstream of the MAF, if that logic applies. Not familiar..

I’ve read several forums already, so I think I have a good idea where to start, if the broken air box does not fix it. But, its all good. Already looking at suspensions, and I still have the interior to finish first. I’ll post those tomorrow.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Your truck looks great for having sat so long. Guess you've been doing some scrubbing!

Your poll is a bit vague. The question about the engine doesn't align with what you post. Do a compression test. If all good (or good enough) drive it after the minor repairs and a small tune up.

Change ALL the fluids, including brake, PS etc etc.

Suspension totally depends on the current condition. I suppose the shocks are toasty, and maybe the springs too. What you select to replace with depends on your use of the truck. But I'd suggest you drive it as is for a bit before diving in, assuming nothing is broken. These are quite capable off road, and most never need some of the things folks install.

Yeah, vague. I pushed the thread/ to my own “ Yota Build” I’ll push polls there. I guess my poll was more of a “ what would you do first” suspension or engine.
