    Hey Everyone!

New member here. Looked for similar threads but none really came up. I'm looking to get a 3rd gen DCSB TRD Sport 4x4. Sidenote: do many dealerships stock or people even buy the 4x2??

Anyways... does it make more sense to get say a '16 or '17 with a higher used car interest rate over a new '18? Are they redesigning likely in '19? Also, what is the average price people pay for a new trd sport in the Northeast? I see everything from 33- 39k on cargurus.

Any pre purchase help appreciated if you got some time or thoughts to spare!

I wouldn't buy a used Tacoma. There doesn't seem to be a good deal on them.

They probably won't really redesign the truck for many years. They might have updates.

No idea what they sell for up that way.

Because they hold such good resale?

2018 has safety sense added. You can probably still find a new 2017 and maybe they will discount a little bit.
For the higher interest rate and little discount on a used, you will probably come out better with a new. Even though slightly higher cost, but less interest rate, plus you know the history.

Used ones are only slightly cheaper than a new one. Plus, the 18s have TSS. Buy an 18.

Price will vary greatly depending on what options you want. If you want the technology or premium package, it is going to cost you.

I would not pay more than invoice for one of these trucks.

Thanks guys. So the taco's aren't like cars in that they drastically change every 3-4 years? If new, guess that means I can order and buy exactly what I want, too. Just really didn't wanna spend over 36-37 OTD, but I also want the TRD sport.

The "Gen's (Generations) you hear about are 10 year runs. The 3rd gen started in 2016 after the 2nd gen went 10 years.

Get on cars.com and search around within the distance you are willing to travel. You can then pull the few you like and contact those dealers and let the games begin. There is a nice thread on here somewhere about this process.

Is there a benefit to the 4.2? Just seems weird they would make a TRD sport in it. But then again I'm not a Toyota brand aficionado. I just signed up for trucar, hoping that might help. I might try things differently this time and email dealers directly so i don't waste time and see if they will deal.

1st gen tacoma ran for 9 years, 2nd gen tacoma ran for 10, 3rd gen will probably be the same with a mild refresh down the line.

 Subbed for impending 4x4 vs 2wd argument.

If you want a 3rd gen I would just go with new.
If you want used I'd pick up a 2012-2015 2nd gen. Reason being my personal experience with my 2016 wasn't the best.

Ask yourself what is your biggest fear . Missing out on a great price on a 17, or missing out on the newest upcoming technology ?IE , hybrid ,electric , self driving and such in the coming years .

2018's must have just come out, as after trucar signed up, I got emails on '17 prices and not '18s. Some are so close to '18 prices, it would be dumb not to just get an '18 and lower interest rate. Looks like ordering a MT DCSB TRD Sport 4x4 is about 34,500. So after tax and dealer fees i'm looking at what... 37-38 OTD? Man oh man.

Hard to justify buying used on Tacos if you're looking at late models. I was in the same boat, in fact I have only bought 2 brand new vehicles in my life (this truck being one) because in most scenarios it's just better to buy a year or 2 old and forgo that crazy depreciation. Since the Taco's don't depreciate at the same rate you generally only save 4-5k off a $35-40k truck and with that you are buying brand new with all factory warranty, etc., in-tact. And the crazy interest rates on new if financing makes it even smarter to go new. Plus you always have to consider the type of vehicle your buying. A street car is one thing, but a truck that is categorically used to do rough stuff, off road, and a bit of towing could easily have been abused by the prior owner...

Yeah agreed. This was a truecar I got:

2017 Toyota Tacoma 4WD TRD Sport Double Cab Short Bed V6 AT
MSRP: $39,522Est. Savings off MSRP: $2,587
TrueCar Estimate: $37,433 (please note that the $498. dealer's conveyance fee is included in this price)

What do you guys think? I think I'd want the MT to save a little and I love MT.
