So I picked up a 99 trd pre runner for a good price. My friend has a 99 4runner no motor he gave me that is 4x4. My question is what parts off the 4 runner would swap over and what parts do I need to buy to convert the pre runner

If same engine and assuming both are AT transmissions, the transmission is swappable. You'll need to swap the Park Neutral Safety Switch on the PreRunner transmission to the 4Runner trans. The 4Runner AT transmission uses a different connector on it's Park Neutral switch.

If the front diff is the same gear ratio as your PreRunner, you can utilize it as well with some modification (ADD diff tube or use the clamp option).

Transfer case is a no-go. Drive shaft is a no-go also. Front drive shaft is good I believe but confirm. CV axles are a negative if you're going the manual hub route.

Steering knuckles from the 4Runner can be used but you'll need to swap out the hubs. Or just reuse your PreRunner knuckles (again, you'll need to swap out hubs).

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Why not swap the good engine to the 4Runner much less work ?

At some time you have seen the 4 runner 4x4 system work?

Just curious why you would not use the Trans mission and Transfer case as a complete unit . What am I missing ? Then I am new to the evil automatic transmissions . I only ever did the manual transmissions 4x4 conversions.

I'm not sure if all (probably not) of the 3rd Gen 4Runner TCs had multimode but I replied with what I did to try and keep it from turning into a real project lol. OP can certainly explore.

The roof is caved in on the four runner. Sounds better to just leave it 2wd I only have $1,500 in it and that seems like a big project.
