I have been little tardy adding an intro here after posting, but I have been reading the forum for a few years since my son purchased a 2005 Tacoma about three years ago. Great forum. Now I own one too: 2014 4x4 Double Cab, SR5, Tow Pkg and a few other options, Super White, 98K. Hope I can contribute some info now and then.

I like older Volvos owning two venerable 240 wagons in the past: a 1990 and a 1993: the last year for the model and put 300,000+ miles on each of them with no repairs to the engine or transmission and normal wear items replaced. The 4cyl engine in the 240s have a reputation on par with the Toyota I4: they don't break either, they don't use oil and they don't get head gasket fluid leaks. They have their quirks, but I belive they are one of, if not -the-, safest car ever built. In the 1990 model year, Volvo made a point to advertise that during that year, no one was reported killed in a 1990 240 Volvo: worldwide. It was a sad day when they announced in 1993 that production of the 240 would cease after that model year. I still have a 1998 Volvo S70 GLE SE: 5 cyl turbo with Intercooler. My wife drives it. Push the pedal down: it flies. Volvo perfected the turbos in their cars until they were just as reliable as their engines and transmissions. I believe they pioneered the water-cooled turbo.

I have admired Toyota trucks since the first Tacoma and learned early on how tough they were. When I went with my son to test drive his 2005, (used: 130k Access Cab, 5pd stick, 4cyl long bed, new frame), I knew I wanted one too someday.

Looking forward to learning all I can about everything Tacoma.

Patrick: Never knew Toyota offered an "Old Man Package" option... I gave up on trying to find a DC LB, but maybe I should have held off and kept looking for that? What's included in that pkg?? I'm thinking softer rear springs and an air-ride suspension drivers seat?? Ya: I could use that...

Hahaha yes the "Old Man Package" my nephew was joking with me about. Instead of a lift, big tires and blacked out everything, it keeps the chrome rear bumper and grille, and has step bars instead of sliders for the Mrs.. Also has a couple of Zebco combos in the camper shell, and Werther's original candy in the console. :)

Good luck with the fly fishing!
