New Member with a couple of questions about rust prevention

I'm a new member, and just purchased a new Tacoma: doublecab longbed TRD Sport, magnetic grey- about 8 weeks away from delivery in upstate NY. Picking out the truck itself was a no-brainer, but I am a little confused with options presented by the dealer for additional rust protection- One choice is an electromagnetic surface protecting technology. Another is a separate underbody black sealer as rust inhibitor/sound deadener. And finally, "ultimate exterior protection"- a paint sealant that protects against UV, acid rain, ... " no need to ever wax your car..." Each has an add-on cost of approximately $250. Any thoughts about effectiveness of any of these
is greatly appreciated!!

 

I can't say with any certainty...but it sounds like they're just trying to get inside your wallet. If anything.... ask them a question: Will all these coatings & extra protection extend the WARRANTY on the body, undercarriage, frame, paint, etc?? If they say YES - I'd get it in writing and I'd read the details. Compare the FACTORY warranty VERSUS the product warranty(if there's any).

Many many years ago, my husband bought a Subaru Legacy that they sold him on some special 'never need to wax' coating on the outside paint. I can't say that the stuff did anything or not. It's only natural (to us) that we wash & wax our vehicles as part of 'regular' care. If we hadn't taken care of the vehicle over the years - would it still look like the day it rolled off the lot? Who knows?? And who would be stupid enough to buy a bran new vehicle and not care for it?

And that's the kicker......If you're gonna buy a new vehicle that you're gonna wash/wax it anyway..... what's the point of these extra coatings unless it offers some type of warranty? That's my thought anyway....
